Pureed Foods = Disgusting!

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else find it really gross to stick your dinner in a blender and eat it? I am 7 days into the pureed foods stage post op and cannot make myself eat blended up food! I tried the first day I was able and my husband started gaging when he saw it and then I started gaging. It even smelled kinda gross. Honestly, it looked like vomit. And minus the stomach acids, thats what it is. Anyway, I can't do it. So I've been eating foods that are the consistency of pureed foods but not actually pureeing any foods, making my choices slim and making me very bored of this stage. Any ideas on foods to eat? Any thoughts on this gross eating habit that we are supposed to do for weeks?

Julie

I did not put anything into a blender other than vegie Soup.My mushies consisted of:-

yogurt,soft cheese,eggs,minced meat,oats,weetbix,veggies mashed with gravy,over cooked pasta(made some great tuna lasagne),baby fruit etc.

I agree that putting a meal into a blender and having it all mushed together sounds horrible.

yesterday I blended up some chicken salad and while it would have been good "whole" and it smelled good, it was NASTY tasting. The consistency made me gag and I just couldn't do it. I'm going to avoid blending much stuff (especially meats blech!) if possible.

I had a soft-scrambled egg this morning. And I have a lite yogurt ready for lunch (w/ a tblsp of drymilk mixed in).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
