Hiatial Hernia and banding

Hi all - I'm hoping someone can help with this question.

I have a small/minor hiatial hernia - I've read that this doesn't mean I can't have the band, but simply they will likely repair the hernia when they place the band.

So I have two questions - first, has anyone else had this condition, and what were your experiences with repair. Second, does the hernia repair add to the recovery time needed (will I be out from work longer, for example)?

My doctor repair my hernia during surgery and it was still all done in less than 1/2 hour and I was his first lapband patient. (he had an experienced doctor assisting from out of state) I didn't have any problems after surgery and minimal pain with the surgery, only shoulder pain off and on for a few days. I was driving on the third day.

I had my hiatal hernia repaired the second time around. The length of recovery wasn't any longer, but I do think the agitation to the diaphragm/shoulder pain was a bit more problematic due to the extra agitation from the repair.

I would certainly advise having it fixed, however, as they tend to become a problem later with the band if un-repaired.

My doc discovered my hiatal hernia in the or doing my band ... he fixed it then put my band on.....
