JillN 0 Posted November 23, 2005 Hi all - I'm hoping someone can help with this question. I have a small/minor hiatial hernia - I've read that this doesn't mean I can't have the band, but simply they will likely repair the hernia when they place the band. So I have two questions - first, has anyone else had this condition, and what were your experiences with repair. Second, does the hernia repair add to the recovery time needed (will I be out from work longer, for example)? Thanks for any help anyone can provide!
HarleyNana 10 Posted November 24, 2005 My doctor repair my hernia during surgery and it was still all done in less than 1/2 hour and I was his first lapband patient. (he had an experienced doctor assisting from out of state) I didn't have any problems after surgery and minimal pain with the surgery, only shoulder pain off and on for a few days. I was driving on the third day. You'll do fine.
leatha_g 4 Posted November 24, 2005 I had my hiatal hernia repaired the second time around. The length of recovery wasn't any longer, but I do think the agitation to the diaphragm/shoulder pain was a bit more problematic due to the extra agitation from the repair. I would certainly advise having it fixed, however, as they tend to become a problem later with the band if un-repaired.
