Scheduled to be banded in a week from today - thinking of canceling!

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to have the band in one week from today by Dr Fielding in NYU.

I just came across this story in the NY post that says the state is investigating the Fieldings and the NYU program for malpractice.

If you have had surgery at NYU, please speak up! I want to hear from you guys. Did you have a positive experience or not?

I am dying to have the band done but this has really scared me off.

Hi there:

I had my surgery done a year ago at the same practice but with Dr. Kurian. I have always found that practice to be highly professional and completely responsive to any concerns I had. That being said, you need to make a decision based on what you are comfortable with. You should not go into any surgery if you are questioning the quality of the surgeon. But I fully would recommend this practice. They are very busy and you may have to wait in the office for a visit. But I have never felt that the care was substandard.

You need to figure out if you still feel comfortable with them but I trust them. Besides, the NY post is not a very reputable paper. They tend to overblow many things. But again, you will need to weigh all the factors and decide for yourself.

In the US with the culture of sueing people at the drop of a hat I would have thought that every practice would be in the same situation and that you would be hard pushed to find one that had never had a malpractice suit! I am probably totally wrong but the impression that the rest of the world have is that people in the US are very lawsuit happy!

Hmmm, after reading the article you included, I agree that maybe you should rethink with this office. Good luck with any decision you make.

I know Dr Fielding did my surgeon's lapband at NYU and I read the book Fighting Weight.

What stuck out to me is that if someone couldn't swallow food or Water why would this go on for days on end? Her doctor who does her fills should have been abe to unfill her? She also should have gone to an ER room even if a baratric dr were not available I read somewhere that you can ask for a cancer nurse because they are familiar with ports.

Ok, I have a problem with a lot of what was in the article.

First of all, with the lawyer, if her band was so tight that nothing was going down, she should have gone to a doctor or the er or something.

Second, with the teenager with the perforated stomach, why is a teenager having the surgery to begin with?

And with the last patient, why did she have the surgery if she only weighed 156 lbs? In that case, I think it is the doctor and the patients fault for going through with the surgery. Even if that was her weight 6 weeks out, she couldn't have possible been big enough to justify the surgery.

Honestly with the news coverage I think the care there will be the very best it can be because they don't want to tarnish their reputation.

Like I said my surgeon had Dr Fielding do his lapband. I am in Michigan and this was when Dr Fielding was still in Australia. My surgeon had been willing to go to Australia to have it done, but they arranged to meet at NYU because Dr Fielding was going to be there for a talk or something.

I am glad you feel at peace now. Just know that the first couple days or the night before you might have these unsettling feelings again and that no matter you had it, you would be having them out of nervousness. Best of luck to you!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
