Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Would you get another fill at this point?

Recommended Posts

My progress to restriction has been slooooow!

Anyway a week ago Friday I got my 6th fill.

I now have restriction. Am not at my sweet spot. I can eat more food then I should be able to.

But, I do have restriction and have lost 5lbs in a week!!!

So should I just wait until the weight loss stops and get another fill or should I get that other fill now seeing as I am not quite in the "green zone" yet.

My surgeon allows fills every week. I had been going every two weeks

I don't judge by the amount of food I can eat. I go by how hungry I am between meals.

I now have restriction. Am not at my sweet spot. I can eat more food then I should be able to.

When you say you can eat more than you should be able to on what are you basing that? Are you really eating a lot or is it just that you have heard/read/been told that you should be satisfied on 1/2 cup of food or something similar?

You have to be able to eat enough to keep you from getting hungry and to get good nutrition.

If you serve your food on a small sized plate , eat that and are satisfied then you are doing great. Don't go getting overfilled just because you think that you should be satisfied on a miniscule amount of food. What is more likely to happen if you do this is that you will eat high calorie sliders that can cause weight gain, or you could get reflux or worse.

Your loss of 5lb certainly sounds like you are in the green zone to me.

As long as you are losing weight I would not get a fill. My surgeon bases the need for a fill on 2 things:

1. if you get hungry in a short time (2-3 hours) after eating a meal of dense Protein

2. if you are not losing weight

Elcee makes a good point though -- my surgeon and nutrionist say I should be eating around 1 to 1.5 cups of food, depending on what that food is. That is quite a bit more food than what I see a lot of bandsters eating. So maybe you are in the same boat.

I'd say exactly what Elcee said.

Also, the 'sweet spot' is not some magical place you arrive at. For me, it was more of a "good spot for now" that I got to with each and every fill. My definition of it is that you eat well and varied, you can eat without undue amounts of vomiting or stuck episodes (allowing for user error) and you are losing weight.

How much food that takes is irrelevant, and I personally think whether you're hungry between meals is not really a factor either. If you're unduly hungry and eat too large portions and too many Snacks and this leads to stalled weight loss then that's when your sweet spot has vanished and its time for another fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
