Where is my port

Recommended Posts

I've got 5 incisions...which one of those is where my port is? Anyone know? :)

Hi, Jini! My port is slightly underneath the largest incision, on my left side, roughly waist level. Some people's ports are in different locations, but I bet you would be right to guess it is near the largest incision. Cindy

Is there a best place for it? My surgeon told me it would be in the center just under the breastbone.

I could feel the pain when someone mentioned it in their breastbone. Sorry mine is taken up by a huge zipper that to this day is itchy and hurts and isn't a pretty site. I sure as heck don't want anything else there, but I have heard that it is the easiest place for it when it comes to fills. In my case I sure can't have it there, and honestly don't think I would want it there. In any case I hate bras...but I make an exception for when I go out :)

I remember right after surgery, I had no idea which one was the port. The one I thought was the band, the largest one, smack in the middle of my "waist" to the right is my port. Actually, the port rests a little above that scar.

When you lie in bed do you feel the port - does it get in the way of a comfortable sleep in some positions? When I have the op I don't know if the doc will listen to my request for positioning, but it's worth a try.

I'm a tummy sleeper, I think about it every night when I turn over, just for a second, I wonder if I just flipped anything inside, LOL.

Jini - We both used Dr Jay and our port seems to be in the same place, left side at large cut. It's sewn into a muscle I was told so it does move up and downa little depending on sitting, standing or laying down. If you put a little pressure ont he area around there, you can feel it. Try at different times in different positions and you'll see what I mean.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
