I agree with everyone else, about the depression and therapy. I think you need to talk to someone. Maybe an anti depressant would help you. As for the ADHD, not trying to sound rude, but most of the ADHD medicines are a type of amphetamine, thus the hunger loss associated with it. I don't think that this is her problem. I too have PCOS. Are you on metformin? It can help with alot of the side effects of PCOS and help to level out your body. ALSO, the band sister that said carbs are not her friend....this is true with most PCOSers......we typically have syndrome X or insulin resistance that interferes and helps us to gain weight or keep weight. The metformin can help this also. I say try to cut back your carbs...and seek some help with your emotional eating. How much support do you have? (At home or in person?) I too am worried about you. Keep us posted.

Miss Sammy...ok i know it's frustrating, but IT TAKES TIME!!!! I'm 11 months out and i just got a really good restriction and started really losing again IN APRIL...i'm at my sweet spot now, but i just got there..and my surgery was July 7, 2009.

It sucks when you want/expect it to happen quickly and much easier...take everyone's advice here. Really look at what you are eating and how you are exercising...i was totally lying to myself and wasn't working out like i told myself i was...which is PART of why i wasn't losing well...the other part was that i could EAT...if your doc can't/wont help more than what he is, find a new one! Just because he did your surgery doesnt' mean he has to be your doc forever...

Look around for a new doc, talk to a therapist/nutritionish, really really watch what you are eating and how you are working out...goodluck!!!!!! And it WILL WORK FOR YOU!!!!!!!!

Hey everyone thanks for your thoughts and ideas..

i guess i'll try and answer what most of you have said..

i see a dietician.. have done since i was 9 i am now 22.. i see her every 2 weeks to monitor my diet so as far as that is concerned i am doing my very best to keep to that asnd see her regularly to make sure that i am.. but please bare in mind i cannot even intake ONE peice of fruit without gaining a minimum of 100g per peice of fruit.. the sugars in everything make me gain weight.. so going completely sugar free is somewhat the only option and makes me quite ill... i go walking atleast every second day.. i've tried everyday but with uni and work i've struggled to have the energy to go everyday..

I see a psychiatrist and psychologist and alot of my problems have cause.. but unfortunately there are no groups or anything locally i can go to.. living in a small town in australia isn't always the most helpful thing..

i realise that the lapband is only a tool, and i recognised that from the very beginning.. when asked about it that is the first thing i always say.. but with no restriction it makes it hard to believe this tool is even helping me at all..

Thanks for the cares everyone...

Oh sorry forgot to mention.. i've recently gone back onto the pill and metformin to attempt to help control and regulate my hormones.. also take seroquel and pristiq for my severe depression..

As for calories etc how much am i intaking etc etc... i am not aloud to calorie count, i have OCD and i become too fixated on the weights and everything included within it.. so between my psych and dietician they decided i was not aloud to do so.. but thanks for the thought anyway.

i know that my band is a tool.. but the tool isn't really aiding me with anything atm.. i know everyone is trying to help and i really really appreciate it but i can't take criticism right now, i'm not emotionally able to take it. so please refrain from criticising me :(

It sounds as though you are doing the best you can with the diet so the answer must be increasing the exercise. I also live in a small town in Aus so know exactly what it is like plus I have always hated exercise! However I think the key is finding something you enjoy. How about Wii - most young people love that and its something you can do on your own at home.

Also I am sure you probably have a community house or something similar - what courses do they offer? Ours has bollywood dancing which I love, its so much fun.

How about uni. Isn't there a gym or an exercise group there that you could join. Also when you walk try jogging for a while. You could walk for 100 steps then jog for 20 steps or whatever. Just something to increase your heartrate a bit more and try to do it every day even if it's only 15 minutes.

The thing with exercise is the more you do the more you want to do. It actually energises you so even if you feel to tired force yourself to do a bit and at the end you will probably feel fantastic.

Aww Elcee thankyou your very sweet, your advice is great!

I wish i could afford to get a WII would be fantastic i'm so into that kind of thing! As for current exercise, i walk my golden retriever as often as i can god forbids the rain atm! As i'm in a country town the uni is 4 hours away so no hope of joining groups there.. Only other thing i have time to do is my dog training atm, where i do alot of joggin but not long periods.. i love sports, and am very keen to get back into everything i was doing before such as basketball, badmington, softball, tennis etc.. its just time and money.. sounds like excuses to me, but being a uni student/worker doesn't really help :(

My mom and i are going too look at those vibration machines, she may rent one for me! will see!

Please be careful with seroquel. It is known to cause weight gain.

as per my dieticians instructions.. my brekky is usually one weetbix with a few peices of sliced peach or one peice of toast with baked Beans or something similar on it.. lunch i usually have a meat and salad wrap or left over dinner. Dinner is usually meat and vegies or meat and salad.. sometimes on its own, other times as like a caserole such as a curry or steak and vegies.. etc.

Everyone pretty much answered what I was thinking! In addition to their comment, I see you're on Seroquel. Did your dr explain to you than you can gain weight with that drug? When going over my options for a med to help me sleep, he brought up Seroquel. I siad let's try it. Then my psychiatrist adds "it'll probably put 10 more pounds on you", I said no. Has something to do with messing up your blood sugar. I've sinced learned from several docs that Seroquel causes weight gain.

However, if that med is working for you, don't stop taking it because I said you'd gain weight - I'm just giving you facts about it. Google it.

I hope things start going better for you, sweety! It was about 5 mths before I started losing anything also. I'm now at 8 mths - 36 lbs - it'll start for you too!

Hi Miss Sammy, you are scaring the crap out of me!!!!! I don't know anything about PCOS, but I definitely know about feeling hopeless and that nothing seems like it will change. First off, you are a gorgeous girl and your signature quote is so positive- try to remind yourself of what you wrote to motivate yourself, those words are still within you. I'm only 1 month post-op, but my weight loss has stopped. I've been feeling discouraged and like this isn't going to work. I don't have restriction and want to eat way more than I should, sometimes I talk myself out of it, sometimes I don't. It's my food addicted brain talking, I know I have to overpower it. It does help me to tune into this forum to keep the dark thoughts down and re-motivate myself. Maybe see if you can find a specialist that deals with PCOS who might have some better ideas on how to help. I'm a children's therapist and do know a lot about clinical depression. If you can't seem to get yourself out of this rut, you might want to talk to someone (a professional) to help. You are not alone, remember that. We are all here to support you, just keep tuning in and talking.

I don't know if someone else said this already, but have you tried the high protein/low carb/low cal plan? I have PCOS and have lost mega weight using this combination alone. Of course when I stop eating that way, the weight comes right back. I am considering the band because I just can't maintain the weight loss. My plan is to go back to eating this way to lose the weight and hopefully the band will force me to maintain the weight loss when I feel like eating something different due to restriction. Good luck to you!

Hey Miss Sammy, I'm not sure if anyone has talked about this yet, but I just read up on my Metaformin I'm taking for diabetes. It says that it can be good for people with PCOS to help them lose weight. It is also know as Glucophage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
