I chew sugar-free gum often. I have seen this asked many times here and you will have other bansters tell you it is a "big no-no." That being said....... I chew it all the time.

Supposedly if you swallow it, it can block your pouch.

That being said, I chew gum almost nonstop, it is my new favorite vice, LOL!!!!

Never..it is not worth the risk. If I can forget to chew my food enough and cause it to get stuck..I can probably get caught up in the moment and swallow a piece of gum. To me as I said it is not worth the risk.

Swallowed gum is easy to break up. If you happened to swallow a piece I think pineapple juice or something will break it up quickly.

Helpful hint of the day: When a child gets chewing gum stuck in their hair rub Peanut Butter in it and the gum breaks up instantly. I have used this tip and it works like a charm.:(

I know I am a firm believer in using pineapple juice when I am stuck so it probably would work...for me 7 months in without gum I am over it. I used to be a gum freak but haven't thought about it a long time.

No, sometimes i might have a piece after a strong coffee, but I've got two things that most people do that utterly revolt me - chewing gum and walking around sucking on big paper coffee cups. Both VERY unattractive habits that I dont do. Just a personal idiosyncracy I guess.

I could go on about other things I hate, but I've probably offended enough people just with those two, lol.

I am with you on the gum chewing. LOL. Especially, when they don't have enough sense to chew quietly with their mouth closed! There is nothing more irritating than gum smacking.:(

Coffee doesn't bother me.

I was having a problem waiting the hour after eating to have something to drink. What I discovered was that I would nibble on more food since I was not allowed to have water! duh.. then the light bulb clicked on as to why I doing the extra nibbling. I WAS THIRSTY!!!! The nurse at the doc's office actually SUGGESTED chewing gum to get me through the 60 minutes waiting time. It works and I stopped nibbling & I have something to wet my whistle.

Some doctors recommend against it (if swallowed accidentally, it can cause stuck incidents)---but mine is not among them.

I don't really chew more than I used to -- but that's 'cause I have TMJ.

I am the same way. Not drinking after eating is the hardest part of this all! I prolly go threw 2-3 pieces of gum in that hour im waiting to drink!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
