Sabotaging myself in the final stretch?

Recommended Posts

What the heck????

So, I've been a powerhouse since I started my 90-day diet back in January.

I even kept myself mostly under control in May through a week-long family vacation and then during a 6-day camping event over Memorial Day weekend.

Low-carb, high-Protein, tracking my food, getting in all my Water, etc.

So I have no idea what the heck is going on with me this week, during my pre-op diet period!! It's not much different from what I'd been following all these months, but I can't seem to stick with it.

I've totally indulged in fruit, haven't been tracking at all, and splurged on tortilla chips and guacamole last night and chinese food tonight. ACK

My surgery is on Tuesday morning, and I'm terrified. I know that things are likely to go just fine, and I didn't think I had too many worries about afterwards (though I expected to be stressed about the surgery itself), but I guess maybe I'm more anxious about it all than I thought.

I'm going to be putting myself on shakes for the weekend and then of course the Clear liquids on Monday, but I hope my indiscretions over the last few days don't mess anything up during surgery, or make it any harder for my Dr. to do a SILS banding.

I wish I knew if a few days of fruit-eating-frenzy would undo 5 months of low-carb work as far as my liver goes.

I'm probably totally overrreacting, but my nerves are getting to be a mess with this whole thing. grrr.

:frown:

I too am in the home stretch.:( I had a "Last Supper"

attack before my 2 week diet too!! I'm going Wed the 16th. The reality has hit us both Yikes:scared2:!!! We're both doing this. :( I was going "crazy" last night but, stopped myself.

Now stop beating yourself up:banghead:!!! Be good the rest of the weekend:smile:. You will be fine. The fruit didn't hurt you and the nachos were a little bad. But look how good you have been:hurray:!!!!

Love yourself,

CarolD

I have went through the same things myself. Hubby had it and then I tried to fellow it also. Writting down everything I ate...high Protein and low carbs and keeping calories down but I'm having surgery next week also and all last week I had a really hard time. It's like i had a meal a day and then would drink a shake or make a salad or something. don't necessarily thing I went over on calories or anything except for yesterday(Last supper) and I'm a little concerned myself. I think I'm the day after you....I wish us both well with no problems

I am having surgery on June 15 and I am on day 3 of 5 of the preop diet. I have only had my shakes but I am dying for real food. I know from being on the Atkins diet before, your body burns what carbs that are in your blood first. Our problem is we used to take in too many before they could be burned. If you have been pretty faithful and on your diet for some duration you stay strong for the rest of the weekend. You should be good.

I am right there with you. I am scheduled for Fri and have not been anxious this whole time and all of a sudden I have felt the need this weekend to "binge" eat. I have made some awful meals (homemade enchiladas, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes etc.) and keep lol the whole time, but now I am concerned about Wed preop and weighing in. I am planning to start my liquids on Monday and hopefully correct any damage done. Good luck! Stay strong and hang in there!

THIS is why dieting doesnt work! This hits all of us sooner or later.

Its the same as why the low carb diet is so difficult to stick to. Carbs dont make you want more carbs. Sugar makes you want more sugar, yes, but the reason you get hit with massive carb cravings the minute you allow one single item to pass your lips is that you have deprived your body of one of the important macronutrients for so so long. Sooner or later you're going to give in and yoru body will give you hell for it.

You're so close to the finish line, I guess you just have to white knuckle it. And that's more for the mental satisfaction and self esteem. You have done so well, you've no doubt shrunk your liver nicely and unless you now embark on a five day carb frenzy, there's probably going to be no real bad effects from your faltering at this stage. When you add in the fact that nearly everyone has this last meal urgency, its no wonder you're feeling this is very difficult.

It really should be a bit of a lesson - this is a lifestyle change you're facing, not a diet. It is simply not sensible to be so strict on something you have to follow for life - because a lapband controls portions but it absolutely will not stop this backsliding that happens when you put yourself on very strict diets.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
