Hi Everyone: I was banded on March 24, 2010. I was wondering if anyone will share on the average amount of calories they are intaking on a daily basis. It seems to be each doctor recommends a different figure. I have had only one fill of 4 cc and have an appointment for my second fill on June 17th. Just curious. I am staying at approximately 900-1000 calories per day. Thanks for being honest and sharing your experiences, Eileen

I'm averaging about the same as you. Sometimes I drop it a bit if I get mad at the scale but it does get a bit tough when going down to 800 or 700 - I find I have to avoid going to my friends' places or my sister's house because of the temptations and of course they're always nibbling on something.

I run around 1200 calories a day and usually burn through exercise an additional 200-400 calories daily. I have been consistantly down 2 pounds per week. 1200 is an easy number to work with and not feel deprived.

My surgeon didn't give me a calorie limit. Although my family doctor told me 1500.

I took it upon myself to try to stay under 1350 calories a day. My scale hasn't budged in a couple of weeks. Sometimes I have 800 .. sometimes it's 1100... but it's never more than a few calories over 1350 tops.

My doctor and nutritionist said 1200 cal a day. I was eating a lot less and had an appointment yesterday. They told me I should be eating up to a salad plate size portion(s) at each meal. If I eat too low calories then my body will either stop losing or start gaining. People think the lower calories the more weight loss. The truth is you send your body into starvation mode when you don't eat enough calories for normal body function.

I found this website that has some interesting facts. Even with the band, which is just a tool, you need to keep up a healthy caloric intake. Of course, everyone is different. This is the advice of my doctor and nutritionist.

Calorie Intake to Lose Weight

I was eating around 800 a day and I stopped losing. I bumped it up to 1000 give or take and started losing again.

I aim for 800-1000, usually toward the 800 end of the spectrum. More importantly, I aim to burn 2500 calories/day, through regular activities and exercise.

Thank you for this post! I am almost 4 weeks post-op, and the scale hasn't moved for 3 weeks. It has been suggested that I am not getting enough calories (roughly 800 a day). I just returned from an appointment with my PCP and she wants me to up it to 1200 calories a day. I am a little unsure what to eat to get to 1200 a day....I have no restriction right now and am afraid to eat too much.

Seriously....eating has never been so hard and time consuming as it has been the past month!

I stay around 1200-1500, I workout heavily 5 days a week and have been losing about 2-3 lbs a week. My doctor seems to be happy with that... I also only have 3cc in my 11 cc band.. Dont have much restriation.

I honestly believe I stall if I eat under 1,000. I think my body panics at that point and holds on to everything. I pretty consistently get 1,200 during week and then probably consume closer to 1,500 on the weekends. I feel like "shocking" the body helps it not go into a stubborn mode. Exercise works in a similar way - if I'm stalled after doing only spinning for a month, I switch it up and do kick boxing. Instant plateau buster! :frown:

I had a doctor's appt and nutritionist appt on Monday, about 2 weeks post-surgery. We got some solid numbers:

68-80 gm Protein

800-1200 cal/day

I've been tracking, and agree with previous posts. If I eat less than 1000 calories a day I can't seem to lose weight. My body almost shuts down -- bloat, gas and general energy slowdown. I have restriction (3.5 cc in at surgery) but mostly reminding me to wait between bites and chew well, although I'm not really STARVING like I was on liquid only.

I exercise 45 minutes a day every day. Can't do weights yet, but I've got the trainer at ready for first part of July when I get cleared to do so. My metabolism seems to be at zero.

Betsy...what do you do to burn that many calories a day? WOW!

I don't count calories or anything for that matter. I eat when hungry and try to make wise food choices.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
