when the dietitian told me he wanted me to lose 10% of my weight before the surgery. I did WW for 3 months and lost 5 lbs. How am I going to do this? This is why I wanted to explore getting the band. Because I cannot lose the weight. I'm sad and frustrated.

Is this the person conducting your mandatory physician supervised diet?

Was this person selected or a part of ur surgeons team?

I'm sorry, that does suck!! How long have u been doing the supervised diet? Have you considered another surgeon or called to ask if someone else has the same requirement? You will loose some on ur pre-op diet.....

Chin up! if you don't loose that is fine, remember they have to prove to the insurance that you have tried loosing weight. Just do the best you can and if the scale refuses to budge the even better evidence that you need the band!

Good Luck!

I felt the same as you. They want to show that you are serious about the weight loss and are committed to it and the insurance needs it (at least mine did) as part of their qualifying criteria. Another reason is to try to shrink the fat around your liver so that the surgery will be easier for you. I didn't lose any weight - maybe 2 lbs and I had to be on a 6 month supervised program. Do the best you can and try to restrict the fatty foods. The process pre-surgery is much worse than anything after that.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure I am not the only one who has tried all the diets/exercise programs out there and failed. When the dietitian told me this I was just thinking to myself..."I'm tired of failing". {sigh} I'll do this and I'll just have to change the way I think. This is not just another failure. But the beginning of good things.

Different doctors and nutritionist have different requirements. Perhaps you could try a different kind of diet to help you get to the 10% goal. I've done weight watchers in the past on my own and it was a slow weight loss. My doctor has me doing high protein/low carbs and the weight this time has come off a little easier. I know that when I did ww on my own, I would stay within my points, but looking back, I made a lot of carb choices with those points. Just saying that maybe your dietician would be open to a "different plan of attack:.

That's one of the sacrifices for wanting the weight we want. good luck on your diet and surgery. :frown:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
