Just joined the chat room, I've been through the whole bcbs thing I did the supervised diet for the year, prescription drugs, the history of being over weight for the past 5 years and all the other conditions. And just when I thought I'd be approved the company which I work for excluded it from there policy as of Sept first.... I just sick and tired of the whole thing....I found a couple of Dr's in mexico that I like. and their fees run any-where from 10,000 to 8,450 including airfare. I v'e talked to a few people who had friends go to Mexico and said everything was fine... has anyone eles checked into it ???

I have BC/BS too and went to Mexico for my band. www.beliteweight.com for Dr Kuri. I am very pleased. I'd rather stay in the States, but it just wasn't affordable for self-pay, I liked that my surgeon was so experienced, and I'd be flying out of state anyway for surgery if I self-paid in the US. Look into lots and lots of docs. Read lots and lots and think long and hard before you bee-bop off the Mx. It isn't the right decision for everyone. Good luck!

I had surgery in Mexico on Oct 21 of this year and my experiance was great. I really was a little queesy of the thought of something going wrong and being in a totally different country but I went ahead and went with it and here I am now 16lbs down, until my fill that is. My surgeon was Dr. Daniel Huacuz at the Huacuz Surgical Center - he is great.

Judi-

I'm in Birmingham, AL. I had my surgery last week by Dr. Kuri (see above link). I couldn't be happier with my experience there.

Kathy is right though- it's not for everyone.

Where are you in Alabama? I've found a few fill docs, but they're a few hours away. It's hard finding one that'll do fills on Mexican banded patients.

PM or email me if you'd like more information on Dr. Kuri from a fellow Alabamian :)

tsims-

Dr. David Carroll is in Jackson, MS- about 3.5 hours away from me. He does fills on mexican banded patients at $150/fill without fluoro. I'm willing to make the drive. His office (601)366-6606.

There is a doctor in Decatur. I don't have the info in front of me. The nurse said that they will start doing fills for mexican banded patients in February. I can get more info if you're interested.

My 6 weeks will be the beginning of January, and I think I'm going to just go to Jackson.

Good luck! If you find someone else, PLEASE let me know. :(

I live in Alabama also. I had my surgery done by Dr. Rumbaut. I have no regrets at all. I fly to chicago to get my fills done. It cost me 142.00 round trip. Dr. Horgan in chicago is very generousy with his fills. I have lost 49lbs in 4 months.

I went to a doctor across the Texas border and he is great. He put me in my sweet spot with only ONE fill, and will sometimes send patients home with a fill, too.

With Southwest Airlines flights and people he employs who will drive you where ever you need to go, things can be both simple and inexpensive.

I had pre-surgery jitters, too --- but they would have been much worse for State-side docs with little experience and poor track records of post-band care.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
