Hi all! I was banded on June 2nd weighing 230 and today I'm down to 215 and its only been a week!! I'm not complaining but I'm just wondering if I'm loosing the weight too fast? Has anyone else lost alot of weight there first week out? And did it slow down once you were able to eat solids again?

I wouldn't worry as long as you are following doctors orders. Yes, the weight will slow down once you are on solids. Congrats on your surgery!

You are probably only eating liquids right now, and on that stage calories are low and yes, you can lose it fast. Be prepared, it definately slows. I'm on pureed foods right now and I have noticed my weight loss slowing. I'm still losing, just at a slower rate cuz I'm getting more calories, fat and carbs.

I lost 13 pounds the first week of surgery. Be prepared to plateau when you introduce mushies into you diet. I didn't start losing anymore for two weeks. I'm not almost 4 weeks post op and down 16 pounds, so the scale is moving again! Just make sure you're staying hydrated! :( Good luck in your journey!

Totally normal- I lost 13 pounds the first week myself... be prepared for slow down when you start eating though...

I also lost about 13 pounds my first week. Now that I'm on soft foods, my weight loss has slowed down dramatically. I also don't think I have too much resriction, because I can drink quite a bit, quite fast, and eat about a cup or more of food. I'm almost 4wks post op. But I don't stay full for very long, only a few hrs. Even tho I don't drink @ all with meals, and I'm eating good quality protien first. Anyone have any help for me? I'm still waiting to get a fill on the 30th. But this hunger is just killing me. Do the fills help?

It's normal and will slow down as you progress. I lost 20 lbs in the first week and a half. Believe me, that rate of loss does not last. A good average is about 1-2 lbs per week w/ the band but definitely prepare yourself for those frustrating weeks of no loss. They happen to us all. Just stay focused on getting healthier and stay positive.

Best,

Lauren

I dont think that you can lose to much weight too fast, I had surgery 2-24-10 and was at 338lbs and I weighted this morning at 243.5:thumbup:. All my Dr. has told me is keep up the good work and "I bet you never thought you could lose weight this fast" Either way though you are doing great and keep up the good work and dont let the weight loss slow down, be as active as you possibley can and if the scales slow down do different excercises and eat different foods, it has helped me with a couple of slow weeks.

I was banded on June 2nd too. I'm down 19 lbs as of today. Sounds like it's pretty normal from all the other comments. :frown:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
