My surgery was June 3rd. I've had them, too....especially when I switched from the Clear liquids to the thicker liquids on postop day 4. I think I was in ketosis while on the Clear Liquids, but when I switched to the thicker liquids I was having a lot of carbs. I came home from work one day and thought I was going eat anything that wasn't nailed down!!! I made the decision to go back to the clear liquids and ditch the carbs! Tomorrow morning I start the mushy foods. I'm planning to stick to things like eggs, Protein shakes, cottage cheese, and other high Protein foods. I feel like my best bet for getting through the "bandster hell" phase is to be in ketosis.

Good luck to you!!!! WE can do this!!!!

I'm two weeks Post-Op. My surgery was May 27, 2010. I remained on clear liquids for 10 days then switched to mushy foods on day 11 and will continue on mushy foods until July 2. Are you still taking pain meds? If so, those could be the cause of your headaches. Are you drinking any Protein Shakes or Meal Replacement drinks? If not, you really should. Bariatric Fushion (chocolate mousse) is VERY good. Only 138 calories per serving and 50% of your daily Vitamins. Are you walking yet? I noticed that when I walked (even though it was tough), I felt much better. I started at the gym on day 7. I would bet you aren't getting enough vitamins or exercise. Try taking children's Advil. I hope you feel better. Stick with it. :(

By day 5 I was ready to chew my arm off I was so hungry, so my doc told me I could progress to full liquids and mushies. That was music to my ears. I made a Protein Shake right away and it tasted like Heaven. It really satisfied me. Hope you can move to the next stage and get some comfort. It's not easy... hang in there.

I havent had any Meal Replacements at all only clear liquids. I finally just made myself a choco Protein Shake with some berry yogurt thrown in. I hope this does the trick!

Good... Do you feel better now? It should make you feel a lot better. I know it's very hard to be on liquids for so long. Just a little substance helps a lot.

I'm a week post op and have been getting pretty full of my liquids and Soups, but I do get hungry about an hour or two afterwards. Its weird tho its like i feel full at the top part of my belly but the bottom half of my belly is growling and I really dont feel like drinking anymore. I go on mushies next week and hopefully it takes away the growls

Headaches could be from carb withdrawal. If it's really bad I would call your doc- it seems many have been allowed to advance when the hunger got unbearable.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I had my surgery on June 2nd. I went from 3 days clear liquids to all liquids now until Sunday. Sunday I start on Mushy foods.. I can't wait. I have had no headaches and have only had a few bouts of hunger. I am drinking Protein drinks (muscle milk light)

Looking forward to chatting with everybody here.

I've started getting some headaches my self. I had a Protein Shake two days after surgery and it went down great. Totally liquified but it helped with the hunger. Honestly, I haven't been hungry at all. I've been sipping on Water and other clear liquids all the time and that helped with me needing to eat. If it wasn't for this damn hiatal hernia, I would be in no pain. The gas irritates it light crazy. Can't wait till that heals along with everything else.

I started with an empty band and was hungry from day one. I stayed on liquids about a week and then progressed to things like Cream of Wheat adding unflavored Protein Powder and make it with milk, creamed Soups, a baked yam, Greek style yogurt with honey sprinkled on top, and scrambled eggs with melted cheese. I was very careful and measure my food for months until I was able to reach restriction. It took 5 fills for me but I'm there now. My point is that you should get used to counting calories again and do it right off the bat. I agree with the PP that it could be withdrawal from carbs. That will give you a rip-roarin' headache. But it doesn't last long. Hang in there and feel better!!! Best wishes!

I was banded on 1 Jun. I have headaches for the first 3 days. I think putting some Protein into your system will help with the headache. I have felt very weak also but going from 3000 or 4000 calories a day to liquid only diet will make you have headaches. Keep hanging in there. I have lost 15 pounds in 10 days. Life is worth it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
