Liquid Phase- What kind of calorie intake am I aiming for?

Recommended Posts

and Protein?

Today, according to Fitday, I've had:

Total cals: 946

Protein: 44g

Good? Bad? Too much/little?

I know I should have these guidelines from my doc, but I have such a pile of paperwork from researching... I don't even know where to start. So if someone could please give me some guidelines, I'd appreciate it!

My doctor has given me quite a guideline - basically a 3x daily Meal Replacement plan - Optifast- supplemented by some fruit juice, some vegetable juice, some milk (make the shakes with milk not water), a thin fruit smoothie and a Multivitamin. I'm being banded in about 2 weeks.

He's explained to me to make sure I get all that in (and that that may be hard) in order to keep the calories at about 1200 a day, and to try to avoid massive rapid weight loss. He acknowledged we all want that but he said I'll have significant loss at that level anyway and that really, it does stuff all for your metabolism or your long term loss as its only Water and muscle and very little fat.

So you're doing absolutely fine and could probably squeeze a little more in if you can manage it.

I would aim for a safe 1200 calories on liquids, mushies and regular food to be on the safer side. Now depending on your body makeup you might need more calories but 1200 is easy on the body. And once you start exercising you'll burn more.

Remember, if your eating lets say 800 calories, your losing weigh then all of a sudden you stop. How can you eat less than 800 calories??? you need something to fall back on so thats why I say 1200 (probably more). Don't cut yourself to low or it will backfire.

Make sure you are taking your Vitamins and Calcium (if needed).

TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR !! Only he/she knows best.

Good luck !!

I'm not taking hardly any calories in, and I'm very tired all the time. I was banded on November 18th and I've had a severe case of heartburn ever since. I called my Dr. last night because I dry heaved 3 times and got scared. He told me to take a Pepcid AC and 2 Tablespoons of Maalox and keep my head elevated for at least 3 hours and not to eat or drink anything. I had taken some chicken noodle Soup and pureed it in the blender and drank about 1/4 cup of it over a 30 minute span around 2 hours before I got sick. He said to go back on Clear Liquids and to stay away from the chicken noodle soup for now (it has too much salt in it and I can't tolerate it). So today, the heartburn is still there and I took the Pepcid and Maalox and now I'm taking small bites of sf Jello. I weighed yesterday and I have lost 10 pounds in less than a week. Wow!!! Darla

My nutritionist never really mentioned a calorie goal. She just said to make sure I get in at least 60 grams of Protein in and at least 64 oz of Water. The rest should take care of itself. I've found that if I'm eating my Protein first, I don't eat nearly as much for the rest of the meal.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

I was banded 2 weeks ago today, and my Dr. has me on full liquids for 6 weeks total. I am finding it sooooo hard to stay on! He said I should have no more than 2 oz. at a time and to sip liquids all day. Women to aim for 45 - 50 gr. of Protein daily. If I miss out on my protien drink, I stave all day. I have at some solid foods with out a problem and wonder if I am doing more harm than good. I feel fine but I am stuck at a 15# loss which I lost in the first week. Any suggestions or ideas out there? I know I am no where near 1200 calories a day, how do I get my intake up?

BSB

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
