Considering Plastic Surgery

Recommended Posts

I have lost 76 pounds so far, and I'm still not comfortable with the way I look. I'm interested in plastic surgery because my boobs hang to my belly button, my belly button to my thighs, my thighs to my knees...I look like a wreck! Does anyone know if insurance covers surguries for bariatric patients? Also, if you have had the surgery, what is it like, I heard it's horribly painful. Just curious! Thanks guys!!

It's my understanding that insurance doesn't tend to pay for plastic surgery, however I would look into it.

I saw my sister recover from a boob job, Tummy Tuck and Lipo. She was out of it from anethesia and pain meds for about 2 days. She had trouble getting in and out of bed due to the tummy tuck. She certainly had some pain, but of course meds help. She would do it again in a heartbeat, says it was worth every minute of recovery.

I am contemplating surgery as well. It is both very exciting and terrifying at the same time. I want tummy, arms and boobs. I have 20-30 more pounds to loose before I get serious about it.

I would actually check over at the Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery section of this board. You might have more luck there.

I do know that you need to be at goal weight for a certain period of time before some surgeons will do it and some insurances do cover it depending on the amount of skin you have due to infections, etc.

Hope this helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
