Feeling very disheartened

Recommended Posts

while i was surfing for information i came across this side from this fitness guy who basically says us losers who chose any form of weight loss surgery are just lazy over eaters who should shut our mouths and get off our butts.

post after post from people praising this guy saying how right he was how we're just taking the easy way out. blah blah blah.

the fighter in my wants to slap him for jumping to conclusions thinking everyone is just lazy and if we just stopped eating it's that simple but a larger part of me feels like i'm 6 years old again and my stupid teacher is saying everything i do is wrong

i don't want to be a failure i do want to be healthy so what if i need help via the band who the hell is he to judge?????

those insecure feelings are never far from the top and it doesn't take much to push them out :tongue2:

I do not think that anyone that has undergoes lapband surgery is taking the 'easy' way out! The surgery is pretty daunting, the recovery can be a real pain in the shoulder (!), and you have to be very conscience of what foods you eat and how you chew for the rest of your life. Banding is not taking the easy way out.

I have worked to lose every one of those pounds listed on my tracker. I have not yet reached any form of restriction and have relied on pure will power not to eat like I had before.

Getting the band doesn't automatically mean that you are going to lose weight. Anyone on this site will tell you that it is easy to actually gain weight after you are banded. It is up to us to make good choices about food and exercise. The band does not automatically do that for us. If you do not change your lifestyle and mental mindset the band will not be an effective tool.

Please don't think of yourself as a failure. I think that we all have chosen banding as way to be healthy and happier in life. Choosing health is not a failing.

Blow off the article and everyone else who says that you are cheating. You, and all of us banded, know that we are bettering our health and our lives. What is cooler than that?

Having the surgery was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. It took a lot of will power to get to the point, emotionally, where I could ask for help. I have been overweight my entire life. I have tried losing weight. In fact, I have got so far as starving myself to try to lose weight, to no avail. It is very easy for someone who has never dealt with a weight problem to say that this is the easy way out. Seriously though, it's not. I was just banded and I have to say that this is a huge lesson in restraint. Right now, I'm still hungry...all the time. I have no restriction but I'm losing weight because it's important to me. Because it's important to my health. Plus, this man clearly does not understand that there are medical conditions that make it nearly impossible for people to lose weight. This man is, in my eyes, a dolt who has no idea what he's talking about other than from a skinny and fit person's perspective. I would like to see how he would react in out shoes.

I say you go with your first reaction and slap him.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
