According to my doctor, gallstones are common in lapband patients. If you are female and obese your chances of developing gallstones is increased. Also, if you experience rapid weight loss your risks are increased. I'm not going to pretend I know the morphology of how gallstones form, but it is something that is common in WLS patients.

Yes they are very common in lapband patients, I had surgery in Sept 09, 5 months after my lapband.. I have having horrilbe pains in my stomach, my stomach would actually swell up when an attack came and it would last anywhere from 30 minutes to an 1hr.. It hurts like labor pains if you've every given birth to a child.. at least for me that's how it was.. I ended up in the er.. And the attacks hit you at the worst time... Good luck.

When I did all my testing they found I had them. My Doc said as long as the stones don't hurt I can have it taken out after the band is in! I am hoping to have the stones out in Dec. Good Luck!

I had a gallbladder attack about 6 months after my surgery. My doctor said if it happened again I would have to have my gallbladder removed. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
