I had the same thoughts. Who among us didn't like to sit down to a big plate or bowl of something yummy and forget our problems? The only thing is, the food did not solve any of the problems. The problems were still there - and then after eating, there we were, feeling guilty about gaining weight on top of everything.

I remember I told a friend, after having thought about it, the only thing I am giving up by having this surgery is the ability to stuff my face - which I shouldn't be doing anyway.

I remember also looking through this forum and others, and looking at all the 'before' pictures. I saw many hundreds of photos of people who all obviously loved their food before surgery - and their ticker signatures indicated that the band was working for them 1, 2, 3 and more years out.

I thought, if they can do it, I can do it.

I couldn't wait for my band, I LONGED for a surgery date, and after 4 months when I got one, and got the surgery, I felt like it was my birthday. I was SO happy!

I'm still on a weird plateau at the moment, I was banded only almost 3 weeks ago, but I am still nearly 40 pounds down from January, 2010 and it's weight I do not plan on ever worrying about putting back on again.

It is GREAT !!! Food was NOT my friend ... it was my drug. Huge difference.

I still have my doubts well... I wouldn't even call them doubts. Just fear of the unexpected. I was on yooutube and saw all these anti-band posts from a doctor! Saying that's basically gastric bypasss is really the only way to go. Now I know he's wrong. Just by the responces I've gotten on here. I'm so thankful for your honesty and taking the time to respond to my post. I truly appreciate it. As of right now I will be having my surgery June 7th, 2010. Very excited. Ill keep you all posted.

I think the funniest thing that I have dealt with through all of this is that you actually are full after you are done. I was thinking but I love this food or that food and now I am only going to be able to have a couple bites, how is that going to make me happy? but you know what? It does. Two bites of that food now makes me feel EXACTLY like 20 bites did before. I feel full, I feel satisfied, I feel that "drug induced" high that you get from that food, just now you do it with less bites!!!! It is really crazy the way it works, but it does.

I was always heavy and gained about 10lbs a year. I was nervous about the surgery and felt because I was 26 I should be able to do this myself. I'm glad I did it, I've lost 35lbs altogether and that's preop and postop with out my first fill yet. Just from having the weight off I'm able to do more and have more energy. I can do more at the gym and fit into clothes I couldn't before. I had a lot of the same insecurities as you and I decided I didn't want to choose food over happiness. And so far I'm on cloud 9. It wasn't always easy on my short journey so far but so far it's been a great experience.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
