still having heartburn

Recommended Posts

So I posted this yesterday as well -

wednesday i went and had .5c added to by band for a total of 5.5cc - i had not had a fill in 2 months and definitly needed it.

I was good thursday with all liquids. no issues.

Friday with mushie no issues,,

saturday am i had 4 salted almonds and developed heart burn right away and nothing will seem to make it better other than teeny sips of coke --which i have not had since surgery.

I can eat , i dont vomit or feel nauseas,, just have this heart burn... trying to decide what to do here.. was it the almonds.. will it get better, ive tried prilosec and zantac,, i have protnix i could try.. and i am using tums.

I honestly do not believe i am too tight -- just dont know where this damn heart burn came from and how to get rid of.

Hi Whillow, I have been great until I had my first fill 3 weeks ago and have had the same problem as you. Heartburn and really dont know how to get rid of it. It has been driving me crazy. I am off to the doctors on Friday and hopefully will get this sorted out. Good luck.

I've been using chewable papaya enzyme tablets from the GNC store. Someone on here recommended them, and they seem to help a lot. I tend to get heartburn fairly easily now, and seem super sensitive to spices. Good luck, hope ya'll feel better!!! (The papaya enzyme tablets are like 2.99 for 90, so it's a pretty cheap thing to try. Cheaper for a larger bottle, but i opted to try the smaller bottle first to see if it worked. I'll be going back to get the larger bottle when these are gone!)

When I was at my sweet spot I noticed that salt really gave me a hard time. I would write down all the things that affect you and then see if you can establish a link between them.

I have massive heartburn daily! My docs tried to say I was too tight, they unfilled me a bit and it didnt help, just made me too loose. I now take Prevacid daily and it has cured it! The band doesnt do a good job at helping keep down acid. No matter what I eat, I get heartburn now. Small price to pay I guess. As long as I take prevacid Im golden

Maalox seems to be the only thing that helps me.

I used to have heartburn almost daily before being banded, but ever since I've been banded, I haven't had any heartburn problems. I guess it depends on the individual.

I had heartburn from being too tight and got .5 cc removed (taking me to 5.3 cc) and now I'm totally fine. You may see if you end up loosening up over time but I hated living like that. I'm actually losing more weight now because I also started eating too much sliders like icecream!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
