Anyone ever been prescribed water pills?

Recommended Posts

Last week, my doctor prescribed me a diuretic because of my propensity to retain Water. A great plus to the pills is that I dropped 3 lbs this week, but I'm concerned with what happens after I stop taking them. I've read that long term usage can be harmful. I'm only taking them around the time of my cycle (7 days) which tends to be the hardest time for me to drop any weight. On average, I'm doing well since my lap band surgery but I have noticed that I generally lose the bulk of my weight after my cycle is over. Should I be concerned about taking these? By the way, my lap band surgeon didn't prescribe them, it was my pcp.

Best,

Lauren

Hi lauren,

I've been taking them for about three years. They were prescribed by my PCP when I went in with legs that were swollen and taut. I dropped about 15 pounds after 2 days of using them. Now I use them one every other day. Be sure to drink all that you were told to, or they will not do any good. I drink 3 to 4 32 oz. cups of Water when I take them. They are one of the things I am hoping to stop using as I reach goal, but right now I know I still need them.

Sally

Thanks so much Patsal. I just started on Thursday, so we'll see how it goes. I do have an issue getting in all my fluids. I'll definitely need to up my intake.

Best,

Lauren

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
