Will I feel light headed or jittery from not eating enough

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about lap band but one of my main concerns is that since you do not eat much how can you not feel like you wanting to pass out? I worry I will faint or feel like crap all day.

Sometimes I feel like I need sugar, like a sugar low. (not diabetic and have been tested) so I need to eat some sugar and I know you can not eat sugar after lapband. If I do not eat enough I can get very irritable. I just think 3 small meals a day will make me feel like crap all day.

Also I went to a orientation meeting at Kaiser and the Doc insisted we all do not do lap band due to complications and because it has no long term tests. Any complications???

thanks Lap Band Peeps.

Uhh.... you can eat sugar after being banded... Granted, if one is trying to lose fat they should keep simple carbs (especially sugars) to a minimum...

I have never been diabetic either, however, pre-band if I ate a very large serving of carbs I would suffer the subsequent crash and would then need to eat something sweet to rebound... and then hopefully not crash again...

Post-band I tend to be a "grazer" and eat frequently throughout the day - not just at pre-determined meal time. If I'm hungry - I eat... This has helped keep my blood sugar more stable throughout the day and avoid those dreaded peaks and valleys.

I am preband. I also have had episodes where I am so hungry and blood sugar has fallen (not diabetic) where I get light headed and feel faint. This however really only happens when I have not eaten for like 7 hours; which really is pretty stupid on my part. True, this is usually due to scheduling issues at work or being on vacation and not having ready access to food. I am pre band and am on a pretty strick self imposed diet around 1,000 cal. a day. I do an hour of cardio a day. I do try to keep my blood sugar steady by having a high Protein low fat/calorie snack late afternoon (greek yogurt, chicken, string cheese).

My surgeon does not really believe in the low blood sugar thing but I know it's true. My regular size sister has the same problem as did my father.

Preband, I was the same. If I didn't eat enough or eat the "right" kinds of foods (protein to tide me over), I would feel weak, shakey and light headed until about 30 minutes after I had eaten. I was VERY worried about the same thing happening post op, since you are eating a lot less. I have to say, I have NOT had that feeling once in the (almost) 3 months after my surgery.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
