Recommended Posts

thanks for all the replies.. it feels good to know i am not alone..

i know it is my fault that i am not losing weight.. and sometimes it feels better to keep telling myself i hit a plateau than blaming myself for it. i am getting married in august. even that doesnt seem to motivate me.. i dont know what to do anymore,,, i know i dont look like i did before surgery but i still consider myself huge and ugly. even though ppl are always complimenting me! =(

It's not about how little food you can eat or whether you have the ability to potentially overeat. Yes, that is exactly why I got banded. That is exactly what it's about. The whole point of the band, for me anyway, is so I can not overeat. If I had to rely on willpower there would be no point in going through surgery.

I consider my band to be just one tool in my arsenal - it's not the end all. If I relied solely on my band I would have thrown in the towel long ago.

My band is not an exclusive replacement for willpower - it's an assistant. I do the work - the band just gives me the edge. My band is more forgiving in the evening and tightest in the morning (which is typical). If I kept my band so tight that I had no possibility of overeating in the evening, then I wouldn't be able to eat hardly anything during the first half of the day - that's a metabolism crasher which will cause people to plateau and stall out way short of goal.

If you have your band so tight that you never have the ability to eat any more (or anything) than you absolutely should, then you likely are too calorie restricted. Your body will adjust to a starvation level calorie intake by crashing your metabolism. Too tight is a different story. I would never tell someone to get so many fills they would be too tight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
