I feel like I'm having a mucus problem. When I eat I usually have to go to the bathroom to spit out mucus. And a lot of times when I feel like I'm stuck, I'm not. So when I go to the bathroom it's just spit. I eat like I'm supposed to, small bites and chew chew chew. What can I do to stop this mucus????

My advice? Stop eating so much. Is your mucous accompanied by any other symptoms (chest pain, tightness, etc.)? I only "slime," as we call it, when I've eaten too much or something I can't handle, and I have chest pain/tightness first. There are a few times I've headed to the restroom to spit up some extra saliva. Here's why it happens:

When you have something partially lodged in your "new stomach" because it's either too big or too much, your body naturally produces juices to help break down the food - your body knows it's uncomfortable, too! Unfortunately, because you've filled your pouch with too much food, and it has to go through a tiny hole to get to your actual stomach for digestion, there's nowhere for this saliva to go. SO, there you are with extra saliva forming in your mouth/esophagus and the only direction it can come is back up...you either repeatedly swallow it or spit it out. Welcome to sliming

The saliva doesn't always come with chest pains. When it has, that's when I figured I was having a stuck episode (plus if I swallow the saliva when I have that pain, it hurts!!!). But like right now, I just have quite a bit of saliva in my mouth. I ate Breakfast over 2 hours ago. I feel like I'm constantly swallowing saliva.

It only happens to me when I eat too much or too fast.

I think it is kind of cool. Looks like a jellyfish in the toilet.

Jellyfish - What a great way to explain it

Hi:

I call it my spit snake! I like that you call it a Jellyfish. Only happens to me if I eat too fast.

I agree. Well said! I couldn't have said it better myself.

I think the OP is overeating by even just one bite. If you slow down and figure out when to just leave that last bite on the plate the slime will stop.:(

Yep - slow down the eating. It's not just about taking small bite and chewing really well. Take some time between your bites to make sure you don't feel any pressure (like your going to belch, slime, etc.). This should help also with the sliming. However, to have it 2 hours after eating seems a little much. I've never had a sliming problem that long after eating unless I drink too fast or my band is tight and food still seems to be above the band.

I have had the same problem--my surgeon suggested I take OTC MUCINEX.

I take one every morning and it has seemed to help!

I've had the same problem with mucus for as long as I can remember. My doctor said when you eat something, the body naturally forms mucus in to help it go down the esophagus. I often have globs of mucus just sitting there in the pouch. It is very uncomfortable and usually has to come up for me to get relief. It doesn't happen if I'm not filled too tight.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
