I am actually really torn on this subject. After reading some people's comments, I think you should be allowed to do it. We have an extra tool to limit our portion sizes, but typically, does the weight fall of if you are not eating right and exercising? I still have to count calories, and I think it is just different with the amount of calories one person has. So, in essence I am saying like many others...say I chose to do the program and in the meantime.....utilized medifast or some diet like that. Is it unfair to others that this is what I choose? I choose a program that boasts 800 calories a day...is this much different than having the band? I would have to say that the "prize" is worth more than any "prizes" they could give you. If you are working hard and exercising to lost the weight (just as many of the other non banded people are) how is that dishonest? My banding is my business. That being said, am I not allowed to utilize things that other people who have not made this decision are? I don't think that is fair either. There are so many variables to this discussion. I think it is a personal preference, and one only you can make. Good Luck.

Why not just ask the administrator who is organizing the contest? If they say WLS patients are allowed to enter than enter, if not, then just continue losing on your own!

As long as your follow the rules they have set out, whether it's theoretically 'fair' or 'cheating' won't matter.

I would ask to participate but not accept any 'prizes' offered for the winner. I do definitely feel that we banders have an advantage that others don't. It is a little like taking steroids. Yes, those who take the steroids hit the ball with their own arms and run with their own legs - but it feels different to them, it's easier than it is to do it without the medical intervention.

Does that make sense?

On the other hand, if you are not participating in order to deprive someone else of a particular prize or incentive, and just want to get healthy and share some motivation, your coworkers and your company would be really petty for not letting you get healthier right along with them, in the name of camaraderie.

Sometimes there are just these things in the office. I remember a bake-off once where one woman in the office who was a regular Julia Child was disqualified from winning (no one could beat her) but encouraged to participate, which she did, maybe just to show off. lol

I would sign up for the challenge but tell the administrator that you do NOT want to win any incentives, your only incentive is just to get healthy due to your belief system or something.

I will be interested to see if your opinion changes next year at this time... :tongue2:

i'm 5 months in, and I agree with her. I have dieted often. This is the easiest weight loss I have ever had. Short term loss is higher than the avg. diet, if I remember the charts currectly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
