something silly to be excited about!

Recommended Posts

This may be silly to post, but I got all my medical records in the mail!! I was worried I couldn't come up with the two year medical history, due to the fact I never go to the doctor. Next is getting the letter of recommendation!

I'm just trying to get all my ducks lined up. I have my first appointment Monday, June 7. Wish me luck!

Once you have all the records you need, it's like a big sigh of relief. I had a hard time finding a weigh in for 2005 and it could have caused me to have to wait an extra year so I know what you mean!

Frogprincess,

I moved from texas to tn, so I told them I needed them to find another doctor. So it was a little easier for me. So tell them you that maybe switching docotrs or moving, so you need a copy of your medical records, and that you are anal and wanted them mail instead of faxed bc u don't know what doctor maybe using. That's what I told them bc I didn't trust them to faxing them. The lady laughed and was like "oh I understand!" I got mine in a week and a half.

Or call up there and ask for their fax number bc u need to send a consent form for your medical records. (Handwrite it out that you give consent to release your medical records to: your address, from years: xx-xx, with your DOB and ss# and sign.) Then call them back in 30 minutes to make sure the fax. When u talk to them let them know that you will call back in 2 days to see if they have been mailed. Be sure to be all over them. Good luck girl! I hope that helps.

Suzette,

thanks so much for that tip. i am just super frustrated because this info isn't just info to me and i want my old doctor to realize that this information is crucial to me being able to start the 6 month weight watch with the doctors so i can be able to put in for WLS. its not just a number on a page...this is a part of a new chapter of my life. I'm just frustrated, but I'm going to try something similar to what you said tomorrow and see if I can get this info started. I would like to show up to my surgical initial meeting with all the paperwork in tow and not be waiting for my 5 year weight history.

Thanks for the support,

Melissa

setteb,

i'm getting ready to start the 6 month wait period. what kind of things did you have to do to be able to submit to insurance?

Ms. Melissa

You're so welcome!

Did they offer you the 3 month program instead of the 6 month? What insurance do you have? Have you done your support groups yet?

Well there in the office I have the insurance specialist who is going to submit everything to the insurance. At the beginning (last month) she, Tina, gave me a three month time line of everything I need to do each month. I jumped on board and knocked out what I could. At the end of the last month, in August, she'll send it off. Tina told me as long as I do everything on list and my BMI was 40, I had a 95% chance to be approved through Aetna.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
