3 days since surgery and have not lost ANY weight

Recommended Posts

Its been 3 days since my surgery. I was banded on June 1st. I have been really sore and bloated. I have only ate a little Soup and slim fasts shakes. I got on the scale this morning and weighed exactly the same. I did a liquid diet 2 days before surgery and low calorie diet 6 weeks before that. I lost ten lbs. during the low calorie diet. I am starting to freak out and think Im not going to lose anymore weight. I ate 4 bites of a scrambled egg this morning and almost threw that up. Has anyone had similar problems?

Give yourself a break!! You're only 3 days out, still full of gas, swollen, your body needs time to recover before you're going to start dropping weight. I actually gained 3 pounds post surgery. I know it's hard, when all of this prep work that we put in pre-op is difficult, but we do it, then we stall. But the first month is for healing, not losing. Chances are you'll start dropping weight in a few days anyway, but don't be discouraged to see that it stalls again as you start adding more foods. Remember, we are all on a journey, take success in the accomplishments along the way, but it's still a journey!! Good Luck!!!!

Most people lose 30 - 40 pounds in the first 3 days. something must be wrong.

Just kidding. Patience is a virtue.

Dont get discouraged it will happen just do what your supposed to and it will start coming off. I stayed off the scale untill my 2 week check up I felt like I had not lost any and was down 15lbs. Stay off the scale and let your check up be your suprize to get you even more motivated.

I gained 5 pounds during surgery from the IV and swelling. I don't think that passed for at least 3 days.

I haven't had surgery yet but when I attended my pre-op class we were told that we would likely gain 10 - 20 pounds between the time we check into the hospital and leave the next day. This is because they pump you so full of fluids to keep you hydrated, you're swollen, you're full of gas. I would recommend hiding the scale for a few weeks.

I was also banded June 1st and have the same bloated and feeling very sore, but you need to take it easy because we are still full of liquids from all the IV and our body is swollen from surgery so we will not see any difference as of yet. I have been having Myoplex Protein Shakes which are really good and also been having flavored Greek Yogurt, oh and lots of water; and I have been ok.

So just take it slow and good luck.

I didn't lose anything the first 5 days out of surgery, even on liquids only.

On the 5th and 6th days, though, wow, I was trying to sleep as much as possible to rest myself (I had tried to get a little ambitious with activity 4 days out and regretted it), and during my naps, I was suddenly sweating out loads of fluids. I had to change the sheets three times in 2 days - and on the 8th day out, I was down 9 lbs from my surgery weight.

I am now on post-op day 15 and am that same weight from last week, 9 lbs down, but I will take it.

Also, pay attention to the Soup you eat. One day in particular last weekend I ate 3 cans of soup. Only about 800 calories, but I gained 4lbs overnight and it took me 2 days to flush my system back out again.

Soup is often high in sodium and causes Fluid retention. It is a temporary thing but best to avoid too much sodium.

Thanks guys for the advice. I guess Im just so scared that Im not going to lose any weight despite all the effort Ive put into this. I am going to stay away from the scale for a few days.

Unless you put A LOT of effort into it on your own, you won't start seeing any real change for 2 or 3 months. Once you start getting fills, it gets easier.

I am not trying to discourage you, I'm trying to encourage you to put a lot of effort into it. You're worth it.

You beat me to it. I was only allowed low-sodium cream Soups post-op and was told to lose the salt shaker too.

I was banded on May 19th and I feel completely back to normal. I have minimal pain at my port site and really only feel it when I'm trying to get comfortable at night. In the past two days I have had a small reoccurance of pain in my shoulder. I'm back to normal activities with the exception of watching what I lift.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
