LoserHeather37 5 Posted June 4, 2010 So I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and my reflux was immediately gone right after surgery. However, I've noticed the past couple of days that I have some annoying heartburn. I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the time of my surgery as well, so I thought that I was all clear. Any ideas? emjay 8 Posted June 4, 2010 I never had reflux prior to surgery or heartburn for that matter. Did have the hiatal hernia repair also. Now occasionally I will have heartburn from certain things, like red wine. And I will get reflux if I eat right before I lay down. My suggestion would be to bring it up with your physician and see what he/she suggests. Try TUMS, Pepcid AC or something over the counter and see if that helps. Experiment with different foods and see if something you're eating is causing the heartburn. Drink plenty of fluids, particularly non-acidic fluids (avoid juices, caffeine if possible, lemonade-type drinks and see if that helps).
Jachut 487 Posted June 5, 2010 Pay attention to when you get it. Some foods upset me now that never did - wine, yes, on occasion and weirdly potato chips, cant TOUCH those anymore. But heartburn for me is a sure sign of hunger. Rather than get the tummy rumbles all the time like I used to, I get acidy and uncomfortable.
The Big Boy 1 Posted June 5, 2010 I read in another thread a couple of weeks ago that Pickle Juice or apple cider vinegar cured heartburn. I tried the pickle juice and it really does work. Vinegar is a base chemical that counteracts the acidity in the stomach. Then I read in another thread that someone drank it to cure their hiccups. It’s the new magic elixir.
