Hello All. Surgery in 10 hours.

Recommended Posts

Well first let me say hello and thanks for all the great things I have read so far. My surgery is only 10 hours away and I am very excited. Lost almost 20lbs on the last two weeks of liquids (with the occasional cheat) and that has me feeling great. Got alot to lose but a huge support system around me so lets get this party started !!! My biggest fear/frustration is the next few weeks of more liquids but all in the name of a better me I say. Got 3 beautiful kids that need daddy to get healthy and help them grow and a wife who is my entire world who deserves more than I could ever give her. Figure a healthy husband is a good start. Well anyway thanks for reading all this and heres to a physical rebirth. Lets ride !!!!!!!!:Dancing_biggrin:

Good Luck ! I jut had my surgery yesterday. I am a little sore as expected. Feels like i did a whole bunch of crunches LOL. Its tender to roll over in bed and coughing, sneezing and hick ups are not your friend. Be gentle when doing these things. grab a pillow and hug it to relieve some of the stress from coughing. Good luck..my proceedure took about an hr. Congrats on starting a new healthier life style!

Good luck to both of you. Doing this for yourself is your first priority. You are doing the right thing. I'm doing great as I have lost 40 lbs since march 16. As for the pain, in about 5 days, you will hardly notice you had surgery. You will however need to follow the rules of eating and drinking. These are very important.

Congrats to both of you. You're going to love the results!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
