Mirena IUD and no weight loss

Recommended Posts

Have any of you gotten the Mirena IUD post-surgery and your weight loss stalled out? Luckily I'm only about 20 lbs from goal, but I can't seem to get the scale to budge since I got it several months ago.

Hmmm...I had to have mine removed as the hormones were reacting with my body....but that was all prior to my getting my lapband. Could be something about how your body reacts to the hormones in it, though? Just like any other birth control.......... (that's why I had my tubes tied when they put in the lapband as we knew we were done - LOL)

I got mine a year ago...I just got banded. I did put on weight after getting it, and I would say it slowed my loss...but I am loosing. Good luck, maybe your body is just adjusting...

Sydney,

When you say you put on weight, how much did you gain? My OB said that most of her patients deny weight gain but the pamphlet they gave me said that there is a chance for about a 2-3 pound weight gain....

I am supposed to have it put in Wednesday but I don't want to slow/stop my weight loss.....

:( Katie

I don't really remember :w00t: I will say it is not slowing down my weight loss now :rolleyes2: My IUD was one of the best things I ever did for my health, except for the band.

I had mine put in last July and then had surgery that Sept. I lost 20 lbs in those 3 months and have since lost from having surgery so it didn't affect me in anyway. I would much rather have a slower weight loss than have to deal with the heavy painful periods. Mirena has been a blessing.

I had a Mirena for 3 years. I wasn't banded at the time but I didn't gain any weight with it and it didn't stall me losing. The Mirena has the lowest amount of hormones in it and they only act on your uterine lining unlike BCP pills that flow throughout your body.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
