Does puking always scare you?

Recommended Posts

I am pre-op but its a post-op question so hope its the right forum. Anyways, I was wondering, after having a band, is it scary every time you puke? Whenever I get sick, I usually heave (?) really bad and really hard to where my stomach gets all cramped up and it feels like ive done a million situps. It scares me to think that when I have a band, Im gonna be so afraid of it slipping! Is that what makes it slip?? Anyone have experience with that?? :Dancing_biggrin:

"Puking" isn't the same with the band as you are describing.

When we banded people vomit the food is not digested yet, therefore doesn't contain stomach acid. It actually isn't even the same as vomiting. It is called "PB" (productive burping) and the food just comes out.

It's really not as bad as you think so don't sweat the small stuff.

Oh I guess I should clarify. I meant more so if you have a stomach virus or flu or something where you have to really get sick. I didnt mean strictly the getting sick from too much food or not chewing enough, etc.

You call your doctor and he/she will give you meds to stop you from throwing up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
