I was banded on 5/17/10. I have been working so incredibly hard since my surgery by following all of the rules put forth by my doctor. I lost 7 lbs the first week, and since then the scale has stopped moving. I have been drinking tons of Water and exercising every single day. This morning I got on the scale and I had gained 2 lbs! What the hell is up with that? :Dancing_biggrin: So....I got mad. I went downstairs on my treadmill and pushed myself to walk longer, faster, and at a higher incline. I felt really good when I finished. The problem was that about an hour after stopping, I suddenly got very light-headed and started feeling weak and clammy. I sat on the edge of the bed, and then I threw up. It was purely Water that I think I drank too fast after my walk, and I didn't wretch at all; it came up pretty easily as far as puking is concerned.

Now I am mad that the scale is up; mad at myself for puking; worried that I have messed up my band; and worried that the scale is never going to go below 245.

I have never worked so hard at losing weight as I have after surgery....I feel so scared and alone right now.

First of all, congratulations for taking a step and having the lap band surgery!!! Youve made a HUGE decision and you should feel PROUD! I had my surgery May 4th and had my first fill yesterday.

Now for the hard part and don't thake this the wrong way....The band is a just a tool. Its up to YOU to do the work but alot of us want instant results and its just not going to happen for some people. The lap band = slower weight loss which is a GOOD thing. And you are going to have ups and downs but you just push through the downs and get through it. I stalled for the last two weeks and although I did not gain, I went up/down between the same darn pound for a week. Then I had my fill and bam, weight was GONE overnight. You may just need to have a fill and are in the "bandster hell" they talk about on here.

As for the exercising, never, ever work out so hard that you puke! I know you you "got your mad on" and took it out on the treadmill (I do that myself and I clean the house) but you also took it out on your body and the band. You have to be careful not to over do it! I still have to remind myself of that same thing especially when I tried for a 5 mile walk. That did NOT go over well. At 2 miles, I was calling for a ride.

And last but not least, you are NOT alone. There are alot of us on here that are going through the same thing, so instead of walking till you puke, do your walk then come on here and vent. Feel free to message me or add me as a friend! I am on here alot and will be happy to listen to you vent! :Dancing_biggrin:

I just want to give you a hug and tell you to hang in there! I'm worried you're maybe not getting enough calories? Do not become obsessed...I see how easy it is. This doesn't happen over night....I've had two weeks where my scale didn't move...up my calories and BAM! three days in a row again!

"Now I am mad that the scale is up"--the scale is a liar, I always give myself a 3 pound Water fluctuation range. As long as it says less than 3 pounds up then its just Water and is always gone in a couple of days and usually takes another pound with it.

"mad at myself for puking"-- Your body made this choice not you.

"worried that I have messed up my band" --No way that a little water coming back up hurt your band. I have done lots of PBing based on operator error and my band is fine. (Not that I recommend it!)

"and worried that the scale is never going to go below 245"-- You've got to give your body a break! It hasn't even been a month! This is a marathon not a sprint. It takes a while. I actually gained weight before my first fill. Once your band starts giving you a little help it will be much better. I promise.

Plus I want to congratulate you on your choice, a lot of people's reaction would have been to overeat instead of over exercise. Your doing great. Ignore the scale, just follow the rules and your body will follow along. :Dancing_biggrin:

Thanks for your comments and support. I have never been more frustrated as I am right now. I don't know what else I can be doing at this point. I am eating under 800 calories a day, burning roughly 225 calories a day on the treadmill, drinking nothing but Water, and following my physician's diet to a T. Still the scale is not budging. I know the band is a tool, and I have no restriction at this point, but shouldn't something be happening? I was losing weight more consistently without the band, and I feel myself slipping into a major funk. :)

You were banded not that long ago. Let your body heal. Rome wasn't built in a day. It took time to put the weight on and it will take time (and work) to get it off. Relax. Keep concentrating on exercise and watching your food intake. It WILL come off in time.

I noticed your ticker says 40lbs lost... did you lose a lot on the preop diet? As far as the scale showing nothing- what about NSVs? Are you noticing clothing fitting better or to big? Is your endurance increasing? Muscle tone? I think you need to go easy on yourself and Celebrate all the success you HAVE had... 40 lbs that is freaking awesome!!! Maybe try increasing your calories a bit?

I lost 23 lbs before beginning my pre-op liquid diet. I lost another 10 on the pre-op diet, and then 7 lbs since surgery on the 17th.

I have no clue to how many calories I should be having a day. I am pretty much on a modified regular diet now. I have been eating 3 meals a day with no snacking, but I don't feel any restriction. The instructions say to eat until I am full, but I am afraid to eat too much. How many calories a day should I be consuming?

I actually went to a band support group tonight, and it was very helpful. I am just going to continue to fight the good fight on this, and I will just push through this. At least I am eating healthy and exercising which has to be helping my health no matter what the scale says, right?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
