Exercise during pre-op diet? Need advise...

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I start my pre-op diet today and wanted to know if there was anyone that exercised while on their pre-op diet? I figure if I won't be able to work-out for 6 weeks after surgery I should go now; not to mention I may lose more weight and it may keep my mind off eating!

Is this ok or will I not have the energy to put into a work out?

I started my pre-op diet on Monday and have been working out since then....I do 45 minutes on the arch trainer and the lift weight....I just make sure to have a shake and 1/2 of applesauce before and then when I get back from my workout I have a pudding. Good Luck!

I stopped working out when I went on my pre-op. My doc told me I could but was afraid I was going to get hungry so I choose to opt on. If you do, you should be drinking your Protein Shakes after, thats when your body needs it the most.

I think you should definitely work out! I have been working out like crazy (not quite to the pre-op yet - probably in the next 2-3 weeks will be starting that). The nurse pratitioner (who is also a bandster) told me that the better shape you are in going into surgery - the better/easier your recovery will be! She was also exercising lots right up to her surgery and she felt lilke she wanted to go back to work the next day! Her doctor (also her boss) made her stay at home, but she felt like she could have done it. Don't know about you, but that's the kind of recovery I want :Dancing_biggrin:

I attempted to work out....but being on a full liquid only diet, I did not have the energy to do much at all!!!....if you have the enrgy...more power to you! goodluck :Dancing_biggrin:

I do 1 hour of lap swimming every day. On days that it's more of a "hassle", get my drift, I do 1 hour on the elliptical machine. Elliptical's are good when you have knee issues. I have a reusable 32 ounce water bottle that I use when I do regular cardio. Since I am not on a liquid diet if I am going to exercise on an empty stomache I will either eat a piece of fruit, or a low fat string cheese.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
