Dry/Peeling Lips and Constipation

Recommended Posts

:rolleyes2:My surgery for lapband was on April 5, 2010. Since the surgery I have battled intermittent Constipation and six weeks out developed very dry and peeling lips. I do drink my Water, my problem is at work I'm not sure how much I am drinking, I could measure better when I was off work, at home.

I'd read on another post where taking fish oil capsules would help the dryness and taking a stool softener for the constipation. Anyone have any other ideas?????

Your still having consitpation? Maybe thats something you should bring up to your dr, i think its a bit long for that?

I always have dry/peeling lips really bad. Best thing I can suggest is vasiline before you go to bed and also before you take a shower. Other then that I use burts bees through out the day.

you need to get a reusable water bottle - and drink drink drink all day long! I work in an office setting, and I drink at least 24 oz of Water while at work -sometimes more - since I know that is the only way to keep my body going, and stop the hungries, never mind the dry lips, etc.

Hang in there!

Ditto here on the reusable Water bottle. Get one with measurements on the so you know how much you're drinking. Also for Constipation try mixing a little Metamucil in water every day and drink that. It helps to keep you fuller longer (it gets thicker as it sits) and it helps to keep your stool soft and "moving" along. My surgeon recently recommended it to me over Benefiber and it works much better!

Great suggestions! Also you might try a couple of small sips of Milk of Magnesia before bedtime. Works like magic for me!!!

For dry lips I have to say I drink 72 oz, by the time I leave work, I buy tow Fiji 1qt Water bottle and I make sure I finish them before I leave work, I take the empty bottle home and refill ready for the next day.

For Constipation I use what I use to give my daughters when they were babies. 1 cup of Apple juice every morning. It took care of that issue!

Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
