Hello, my name is Chris. I'm seriously considering getting the Lap Band surgery done. I'm 5'10 320lbs at 21 almost 22 years of age. I've tried every diet, every work out routine, and every thing else you could possibly think of to lose weight. I want to get down to 240lbs.

My mother had the surgery in 03 and lost 180 lbs. She was also the first person to get pregnant after getting the surgery (which went fine). We both believe this would be my best bet, and would change my life dramatically for the better.

I'm trying to get the same doctor she had, Dr Vafa Shayani. I'm not sure how to go about setting this up with him though, any thoughts? Oh also, is there any possible way to set up a payment plan? I don't have insurance

Thanks guys.

Here is a picture I got from a website that would show how you look if you were to lose a certain amount of weight, this is if I lost 50 lbs.

Cool website....what is the name of it?? If I were you, I would start out by calling that Dr's office and see what their procedures are. And yes there are payment options with my surgeon, so I am sure there are for other surgeons.

Good luck to you!

I just registered today. Just wanted to say that I think your mom must be such a huge inspiration and success story, 180 pounds is awesome! I too have battled weight my whole life and wish there would have been something like this when I was your age. Go for it! :Dancing_biggrin: Your entire adult life will be so much different. I'm trying to find a way to make it happen for me now and I'm twice your age.

She definitely inspired me. I'm hoping to go in Monday for my first consultation with doc

I'm getting banded on June 14th with Dr. Shayani. I am meeting with the dietitian, him, and getting some final tests done this Monday. I'm getting really excited. I'll let you know how everything goes.

I'm not sure what insurance you have, but I went to a seminar in February and I'm getting banded 4 months later.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
