Help..I want to eat all the time

Recommended Posts

Banded May 17, 2010. I have been healing really well. No problems with anything sticking (on solids already), no vomiting, I am getting plenty of Protein (love the shakes) BUT, I want to eat constantly....not big stuff , just grazing. The calories add up and I am NERVOUS!!! I go see the doctor Friday, then I guess he will tell me when I get a fill, but I really feel like I need one bad. I don't even have a really full feeling at all. I have after having a large Protein Shake, but that subsides quickly. Anyone else having this problem??

Sounds like you are needing a fill for sure. If you are on solids then try eating foods with higher protein content. chicken and Turkey have the highest protein content. I eat alot of white chicken in a can with a little FF mayo. Try some polyo string cheese also. Make sure you aren't eating more than 4 oz. Alot of what you are experiencing is head hunger also. Try drinking more fluids. I live on Crystal Light. I also live on sugar free Ice pops.

Make sure that you tell your doctor what you are feeling when you go. Maybe they will give you a fill then.

Thank you for responding. I eat plenty (sometimes I have to watch I don't get too much- love the shakes) of Protein. I think you are right on both answers....I def need a first fill. I also think your right in that a lot of it IS in my head. Hopefully that will stop soon. Thank you!

It's really difficult to feel full for long on liquids. Hence the desire to graze even after downing a 250 cal Protein Shake. Right after the surgery is the hardest because of the liquids/mushy phase. The pouch empties out WAY too quickly. I think you're just going to have to hang in there. When you get to solids and can have more solid Protein, fullness will last longer and it'll be easier. You really can't say for sure that you need a fill until you've been eating solid foods and THEY are emptying out of the pouch too quickly. liquid should go through - that's normal or you'd get dehydrated.

I was banded on 4-3. I am getting my second fill tomorrow morning. I am hungry all the time. I don't think that I have felt the "restricted" feeling and I am eating more than I should be eating. I wonder if it is possible that I have already stretched the stoma. I worry about that alot. My dr. says that it may take a few fills to find that "sweet spot" so I am hoping that tomorrow's fill will be the magic number and I will have the restriction and ability to continue losing weight. It is just comforting to know I am not the only one. I don't post often but I do read what others say. Going through this journey is much easier together.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
