Hi, I am 27 and weigh about 320. I am nervous, a little scared and also feeling a bit ashamed that so young in life i need surgery to loose weight.

I had my surgical consult today and have my surgery date set for July 12th (still waiting on financing.

If anyone has any advice or wisdom it would be very welcome.

Thanks

You should never be ashamed to be getting help to better your life. I wish I had known I had this option before I was 35. I had my kids at the weight you are starting out at and its really hard carring a baby at over 300lbs then trying to keep up with them when you have 2 is almost impossible.

You should be proud that you are doing something to make your life longer and more enjoyable while your young and can really spend the rest of your time thinner and having lots more fun.

I'm 320 lbs as well, and I turn 22 in two weeks. Don't feel bad.

Get banded! You'll be glad you did. I too am proud of anyone who decides to have it at an earlier age. I'm 54 and had mine March 16. I wish I could have done it at 21. My life would have been so much different.

I started this at 320 also and im 22. I cant say this is the best choice I made, cuz i havent lost any weight with the band yet. But once I get to my sweet spot, I am sure I will say it was worth it, but I am glad that I took control of mylife!

I was banded in December and my whole family was against it. One daughter, 23, morbidly obese herself, another daughter, 26, in Nursing School said don't do it and my husband was against it too. I did it any way. By March my 23 year old was in surgery herself and banded. Now they all think it was the best decision I ever made for myself. I only wish I would have done it sooner. And my 23 year old is losing faster than me! I will say that it is quite and adjustment in how you think about food. It's like learning to eat all over again, only this time the right way. Best wishes!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
