Question about fills and being too tight

Recommended Posts

Okay so i went in almost 2 weeks ago for a fill: thought I was too tight, but it got a little better, but now I PB everything: nothing that isnt liquid will go down without slime: I have tried chewing better, changing foods: nothing is working: so I called my Dr and I cant get in until late tomorrow: my question: can you really be too tight with a fill of 6cc in a 10cc band? Also, I am going to Disneyworld for a week day after tomorrow will the flight affect my fullness and will the unfill be like the fill: take a few days to recover?

TIA!

Yes, it is possible. My band gets tight at certain times of the month, if I go to the gym several days in a row or if I have a cold or allergies. You are obviously too tight so it is good that you are going for an unfill. I usually have to take it easy after an unfill as I am sore and swollen from several days of being too tight. Have fun at Disney!!

They say every body is different when it comes to fills. What is tight for some is not enough for others. Our bodies change with everything we do and can even fluctuate during the month. I was fine for three months without an adjustment, then all of a sudden over Memorial day weekend I got so tight I couldn't eat and could barely drink. I generally get a little tighter and looser during the month around my period but this was definately an 'unfill' situation. My doctor will always take you as a walk-in if you need an unfill so he fixed it immediately. The only thing that had changed in my life was that I had gone on birth control pills approximately 3 weeks before. Maybe my body reacted to that by retaining Water. Anyway, an unfill was nessary, problem solved. Pressurized cabins on aircraft can cause some discomfort so just remember that if you feel uncomfortable just refrain from eating or drinking on the flight if you can and you should stabalize after you land.

Good luck.

The band can be a little high-maintenance but he pay off of weight loss is wonderful. Just keep an eye on your body, your lifestyle, and any changes and you'll be ok.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
