Banding vs. Bypass with PCOS

Recommended Posts

Hi-I went to see my surgeon for the first time a few weeks ago and was prepared to go with the Band. I am approximately 100lbs. overweight. My surgeon recommended that I choose the Bypass due to PCOS and the insulin resistance. She stated that I would only loose 20-50 lbs. with the band vs. 75-100% of my weight with the bypass due to insulin resistance. Has anyone else been told this, or has had either surgery and can report on their progress.....Thanks!

I have PCOS and I am getting banded on the 29th. My Doctor didn't seem to have a problem with me getting the band. But I will sure let you know how things work out

I have PCOS and neither my PCM, my gyno nor my surgeon suggested going with bypass. I've lost 46lbs so far (need to update my ticker), and have not had any problems with it coming off slowly.

I have PCOS as well, and I am scheduled for a band 6/10. My surgeon had no issues with the PCOS and the band. I would recommend a second opinion, since there is major difference between the 2 surgeries.

I had bypass back in 94 but didn't lose much (about 20 lbs) - the biggest thing it did for me was stop the sweets (dumping syndrome) and stayed relatively the same weight for about 10 years, then started gaining about 5-10 lbs a year.

I got banded on May 6 - I feel like I have been given another chance.

From my research, I read that each person is different and the amount you lose can vary. No way can that doctor know what you will lose on the band.

I read that in 5 years a banded person and a bypass person lose generally the same amount, only the bypass person loses it faster at first and the banded person loses slower.

I was banded 5/13 and I have PCOS. My surgeon will not recommend one surgery over another as he feels it is an individual choice. I have lost 28 lbs (including my pre op diet) and am doing quite well.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
