Hello there!! I'm not sure what part of DFW you live in, but I am going to Dr. David Kim. I haven't been banded as of yet, but I have been going to his Colleyville office for my supervised weight loss. My insurance (Cigna) requires 6 months of a doctor supervised weight loss attempt/education.

Dr. Kim is very experienced in performing WLS. When I went for my consultation, he really listened to me regarding the surgery I wanted. His staff is very helpful and educated. I think he has performed WLS surgery on a few of the ladies in his office. I also went and looked up everything I could about him and his practice. Everything I found was extremely favorable. A co-worker, of my husband, is getting ready to contact Dr. Kim regarding surgery revision. He had surgery with another doctor and has had some issues. He also heard great things about Dr. Kim.

Dr. Kim is very realistic and doesn't make you think you will be skinny as soon as you wake up from surgery. He and his staff try to ensure the patients understand the band as a tool.

I don't know who you will ultimately pick, but I hope this helps. Good Luck to you!

thank you all for your responses. Dr Kim is who I was leaning towards, and now with everyone suggesting him, that's probably my choice.

I'll call their office for more info.

Great choice. I don't think they come any better. Dr Kim and his staff are head and shoulders above the rest.

Take my word for it, I am not afraid to call a spade a spade. These people are top notch!!!

I have an appt next Wed with Dr Kim! Nervous & excited.

My insurance doesn't cover WLS, so it'll be self pay. Hoping for some financing to pay for part of it.

I'm so ready for this to happen.

There are financing companies specifically for weight loss surgery these days.

Payment Options For Weight Loss Surgery - Patient Financing

Good luck and there is nothing to be nervous about.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
