Why does food have to be so hard? Its just food! Its purpose is to keep us alive.

I have less than a week away from my doc appt. for my liquid diet and my class less than a month away from me surgery. I wanted to loose 5lbs by monday. Been working over a week for this goal! I have walked a mile every day for the last 4 days. but,its food.

I love to walk! I love to listen to my MP3 player and just walk. but, the damn food. I know I will feel like shit after I eat. I will hate myself after I eat. I will hate that I just ate back anything I burned from walking. So, what was the point in walking if I was going to come home and eat the calories back??

Why do I keep doing this to myself. Its crazy That I want so bad to be healthy and fit but I am always in my way??!?

Anyone else having my problems, or am I just a nut!

and to top it off. I have like a spider from hell in my house I cant catch. Death to the spider when I find him!!!

Hello. Since I live alone I may have it easier than some about only keeping "appropriate food" in the house. My personal food issue is carbs. When I had the preop classes they stressed shopping from the perimeter of the store. Guess what most process carbs live at the center of the grocery store. I used to have 3+ bags off open Snacks, not neccisarily potatoe chips, but crackers, mini rice cakes. I also LOVED Sweet Childrens Cereal. I figured it was very low in fat so I could eat it like crazy for dessert. The problem is it 's very high in carbs.

So I don't keep those items in my house anymore. But I do have have a loaf of really good bakery whole grain bread in the frig. Occationally I will toast a piece and eat is with Benecol spread.

Eating a meal after exercising is'nt the problem. I do it all the time. What I find to be important is planning what you are going to eat. I work from home and often into the evening. So, I go to the gym at noon and sometimes have brunch. I have egg white omlets my treat a pancake with Syrup. Should I skip the pancake sure but if I do I will eventually say to myself "why do I have to always deny myself. Always!"

When I get hungry but it's not time for a meal I keep Greek yogurt, and string cheese in the frig. I also buy chicken breast marinate it in low/no fat marinade and keep that on hand as well.

I am preop. My doctor wanted me to do a special liquid diet that they sell at the hospital but I was allergic to it and I was not loosing weight. My surgery had to be postponed due to another health issue. I have been eating regular food and using whey Protein shakes. Since my first meeting with the program 12/28/09 I have lost 40 pounds. Not bad for will power and excercise.

tori i feel just like you do and im almost a year out. i still struggle but its a learning process. i love walking too and i have recently started back walking instead of being in the gym everyday, i need to combine the two so i dont get too bored. you should check out the food/recipes threads on here for meal ideas too. it might help to try something new each week to allow for more choices.

i feel like i stand in my own way too, we have prob all been there. this really is about changing your mindset. hang in there and keep coming here for extra support.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
