Do you get an Unfill for Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am having surgery on my foot on Friday and am wondering if I should get an unfill. I will be getting anesthesia(sp). My podiatrist said as long as I don't eat after midnight I should be fine.

Has anyone had any type of surgery since getting banded and did you get an unfill?

My Dr says that they now unfill people prior to any kind of surgery. The reason for this is the nausea and vomiting associated with anaesthesia can sometimes cause a slip.

When I reach 200 lbs. I am having knee replacement surgery and I asked my surgeon this very question and he said Yes, they unfill you and if you don't have any serious complications they refill the band in about a week, taking me back up to my sweet spot. Hope this helps. Best wishes with your foot surgery.

I had surgery about 6 weeks ago and did not get an unfill. It was outpatient and while I was a little tight from not drinking fluids, I didn't have any problems. However, I don't usually get nauseated from anesthesia anymore due to the better stuff they give you these days. I think it's a personal preference if you do. If you tend to easily get nauseated, then maybe a partial unfill will do.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
