I had the same problem for about 7 weeks. My doc said it is normal and your body will eventually adjust. Said it is a reaction to the band, anesthia, a new diet and generally having everything moved around inside during surgery. Last week it stopped all of a sudden. I used a lot of Gas X before meals and that helped some.

Hope yours goes away soon. I was taking 4-5 trips to the bathroom every afternoon just to let off gas.

I have the same issue... but it comes and goes. I keep some gas x in the purse and have them when it is really bad!

I am finding that for me the stomach gas with lots of belching and even left shoulder pain seems to happen most often when my stomach is empty for too long. at least that is my new theory that I am testing and so far I am correct  I had problems about 2-3 weeks post op and then was fine until just a couple weeks ago, now I have been getting lots of gas. The thing those two time peroids have in common is a mostly liquid diet. I am currently doing a Meal Replacement program with my doctor to "jump start" my weightloss and have 2 shakes and dinner. I am finding that if I eat a small snack between shakes I do not have the problem with the gas.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
