Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan

The Couch to 5k program is a program that combines walking with running to build up your endurance til you can run a full 30 mins. straight.

The program is 9 weeks long and it is AMAZING! I have always been overweight. I had never run a day in my life, and I decided to start this program in March. I have completed one 5K, have 3 more planned for this month, I have an 8K on July 4th and I am running a 10K October 23rd. I am up to 5 miles 3-4 times a week. I never in my life thought I would not only lose weight, but learn to LOVE running! I highly recommend it (if you can't tell :Dancing_biggrin:)

Spinning classes are one of the most bang for your buck cardio (time-wise) out there! It's one of the tools I used to get my metabolism white-hot. Beyond that, outdoor cycling, elliptical and weight lifting round out the side for me. Use the treadmill for the extreme incline.

One of the best things I've done is invest in a heart rate monitor to get a fairly accurate measure of calories burned. The computers on gym equipment are just generalities and can by insanely inaccurate.

Don't do much walking - it just doesn't get my heart rate up high enough any longer to be a good form of exercise.

You know Tae Bo is really fun. I haven't done that in a long time so maybe I need to start again. I have been running on the treadmill, and walking at an incline on the treadmill.

I use the elliptical, treadmill and the ea sports active on the wii. I also throw in the use of biggest loser dvds and use resistance bands for some strength training at home.

It seems, from reading all these posts, that everyone is doing a lot of exercise (average at least an hour a day almost 7 days a week). I'm sensing that is a big part of continued success? Can you guys make any recommendations to a time-crunched exercise newbie how to fit all that exercise in? I will do it, I just don't know how? Between work and commute time, I'm gone 11-12 hours a day M-F.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
