sueslostcontrol 0 Posted June 1, 2010 Hi. I'm Sue. I got banded May 10th, 2010. Since that date I have lost 18 lbs. Today I did my morning weigh in, and I GAINED 5 lbs since yesterday. Mind you, I have been following my dietary guidelines and have done NOTHING different. It seems to me I just can't get below 300 lbs. I have been trying. I drink my shakes, eat my applesauce, and drink tons of Water. I do 30 minutes of cardio a day. I just can't believe I gained 5 lbs in one day after doing NOTHING different! I am so upset and depressed over this. Has this happened to anybody else?
btrieger 21 Posted June 1, 2010 Your weight will fluctuate. As long as you are doing what you know is right; do NOT let it get you down. You can lose 5 pounds in a day just as easily. Just keep your chin up and it will happen.
Glass is Half Full Girl 0 Posted June 1, 2010 Hi Sue Our lives are so dictated by the scales aren't they. 18 lbs since May 10th is very impressive. 5lbs overnight will most likely be Water retention. Women particularly (as I'm sure you well know) have to deal with so much in life and then "wham", someone thought throwing in hormonal shifts and swings just to spice it up a bit. Don't beat yourself up about it and maybe the best advice I can give at this stage and going forward would be to only weigh yourself once or twice a week. Weight loss decreased for me after about 10 days post surgery which is normal. Think of your weight loss journey as a reasonable mutual fund - you benefit/lose a little at a time - 1-2 lbs per week - but at the end of the year you could/should be down 52 lbs. It's the only way I can stay sane. I have actually gained about 5 of the initial 12 lbs I lost back but it's because I'm not doing what I am supposed to and relying too much on the band. In a nutshell, stay focused and keep coming on to read comments from everyone else on this community. It's addictive! Good luck.

Relax as long as your healing don't weigh yourself just concentrate on getting better! Once you have had your fills you will notice some loss, but since you went from liquids to Protein your body is seeing that! Do not get upset or depressed this is a tool that is helping you so relax and enjoy the next couple of weeks till your first fill, then start looking at how your body is responding to your in take! LarraineM 6 Posted June 1, 2010 I would'nt get caught up in the weighing myself every morning routine. Women especially have flux times with Water etc. I only weigh myself every two -three weeks. As long as I am doing what I am suspose to be doing its all good when I weigh in at my Docs office.
BWESLEY 6 Posted June 1, 2010 yes it is most likely Fluid if you have been out in the heat and too much sodium intake
jensmallwood 0 Posted June 1, 2010 Yup-- the scale can be a big, dumb liar! You DID NOT gain 5 pounds of fat in one day. No worries!
Froggie D 1 Posted June 1, 2010 They say that one pund of fat is 3500 calories so unless you ate an extra 17,500 calories yesterday, you did not gain fat, just Water weight. Fluctuations are normal, but sooooooo discouraging, I know. Hang in there.

There is a little bit of a compromise for those, like me that can't resist weighing ourselves daily. Weigh daily, record the weight weekly.
OnTheWay to Thin 0 Posted June 1, 2010 You may be retaining Water, females can pile on the liquid at certain times, and since we have avoided the scales most of our life and overweight we did not realize the extent of this. I can go up 4lbs just before and during that time, and then it goes away just as fast on the other side. Hang in there, keep following the plan and it will disappear again. Marine mom 3 Posted June 1, 2010 i weigh every day. I did give up the emotional roller coaster, though. The scale motivates me a lot.
Froggie D 1 Posted June 2, 2010 I personally cannot resist weighing every day and I have decided it is like putting money in the slot machine but not pulling the handle but once a week. If I don't pull it (weigh myself) this might be the one time I win (lose weight). I know it sounds dumb, but it is too tempting to try and get that reinforcement every day to keep me going. It is a good thing I do not go to the casino!
