Scars, Scaring and what to do about them

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, this topic hasn't been covered since 2008 ... can we put anything on our scars? Vitamin E? Mederma? Neosporin? Anything you get from the drug store? What have you used and what works (or doesn't)? Thanks!!

I use bio oil on mine. I started using it just before Xmas cos I noticed I had some stretch marks. They are now all gone. My scars are not very noticeable either but I don't think that is because of the bio oil.Teh only scar which yiou can really see is the biggest one and its not that bad at all.

Hi I use bio oil as well and my scars are starting to deminish. There is also Kole Kope (I think that is how it is spelled)

Good luck!

I believe the person above me meant Kelo-cote. That's what I'm using. I think it's too early to tell results, but I've heard it's a great product. A little expensive, but worth it.

I had lapband surgery Feb 16, 2010. I have been using Mederma and it has worked pretty well. The key with it is consistency. I usually apply it two or 3 times a day.

Hope this helps

From what I've read, massaging the scars and keeping them moisturized is key. So I just massage lotion onto mine. We'll see how that works!

being in the beauty industry (im an esthetician/massage therapist) i am alwasy interested and doing research on this topic. the skin care company Jan Marini (same comapny who had the most amazing lash growing sysytem, Marini Lash) will be coming out later this year with new technology for scars and stretch marks...from the research i have done, this sounds like its going to be amazing! i already have the word in to our skin rep that I WILL be trying this out...and i will FOR SURE let all of you know how it works

I have spent hundreds of dollars on Mederma over the past 6 months using it faithfully 3 times a day on my PS scars and do not believe it works. Why do I keep using it? Hope springs eternal, LOL!!!! I WANT it to work. My PS says any good lotion and MASSAGE is the key!!! He likes Shea butter, but it is very messy.

From previous scar experience (serious cuts on left forehead and around left bicep from major car accident 6-26-81) I've learned that aloe vera cream works very well at fading scars. It won't make them disappear but, they will be WAY less noticeable. Right now I'm using aloe fresh hydrating body lotion with aloe and cucumber extracts by Vaseline.

Be sure to use it faithfully, several times, during the day & night (use pretty much whenever you think of it). Your scars won't just "disappear" but, they will slowly fade. The lotion's moisture helps alot with how they feel, too. I just started using the aloe vera cream because I wanted my scars to heal pretty well first. I was banded 05/24/10. My first fill will be 06/14 and I'm looking forward to it. Good Luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
