almost 2 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am 29 and I have been overweight most of my life. I had the lap band done on 5/19/10. I went to the seminar that my surgeons office provides on 2/17/10 and I started dieting that day. As of the surgery date I lost 29 lbs on my own. From 5/17-5/24 I lost another 8.5 lbs. For anyone that is post op, do you have a feeling like you are not really hungry but that you mostly just want something to chew on?? On 5/24 my surgeon told me I could start back on the Protein Shakes having one for every main meal and plenty of Water in between. I keep weighing myself and I think that I have only lost another 6 lbs in a week. Does this sound right?? Any info or thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Hey Crashley,

You're in a really frustrating phase of post-op life. It gets easier once you get to soft/pureed foods (per your surgeon's instructions).

Expect slow weight loss throughout this journey--one or two pounds a week. Also keep in mind that immediately post-op, a lot of people gain weight. This is a time for you to let your body recover, not a time for you to worry about what the scale says  Six pounds in a week is phenomenal.

Congratulations!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
