I am 11 days post op, and today I was hungry and needed a snack or lunch (as I was running in meetings all day). I had a lrge flurry from MacDonalds, but with no toppings just soft serve. It is high in calories (like 400), but has decent Protein 16grams. It is all I have eaten today, do you think this is a big no-no? I feel guilty!!

honestly, yes, a big no no. guilt doesn't do any good, so i would personally just chalk it up to a bad choice. those kinds of choices are what caused the problems to begin with. my opinion, of course.

I agree with Missy.

It is wrong in many ways:

  • Fast food joints serve poison! There probably wasn't an ounce of ice or cream in whatever the crap they served you was.
  • Even if it were a healthy frozen yogurt, it is still not a balanced diet.
  • If it was all you had to eat all day then you apparently skipped Breakfast and that is bad.

If you are in a hurry, find a Subway or deli and get a small sandwich, a salad, a cup of Soup, etc...

Steer clear of fast food joints no matter the cost!

Trust me i would have rathered Subway or something more healthy, but I am still on my liquid diet and my options are pretty small. I was going to grab a Soup at Subway...but they had none left. Should be more prepared from home next time. I thought ice milk would be the best bet, but I guess I was wrong!!

You really shouldn't be too hard on yourself. You are in the stage of healing, not weight loss. It wasn't the best decision you could have made, but it could have been worse. All you can do is try not to do it again. Will you make mistakes along the way? Yes. We ALL do. Just don't get down on yourself for 1 mistake. Or 2 or 10. They happen. Just try again tomorrow to be better. It probably didn't hurt anything to get in some calories today since you missed Breakfast. But I would just keep some Protein Shakes in your car if possible so that you don't have to take the fast food route. It can lead to some bad habits.

Marie is right, You are in the healing stage not losing. May have not been the best choice but most of us do that from time to time. I had coffee ice cream yesterday and I'm 22mo. out. (and it was too die for) Just a little and I think that's OK from time to time according to my fill center if you eat and follow the rules 99% of the time that 1% shouldn't hurt you. Mind you I'm not trying to encourage you to eat junk I just don't want you beating yourself up for 1 small slip up. put it behind you and move on. My suggestion is the same as Marie's keep a Protein Drink or something like that in your bag so if you can't get what you want somewhere you will have a healthy fall back.

You should have grabbed a yogurt from subway, starbucks, or even mcdonalds. Was it really a this is all i can find or where you craving and falling back into old habits?

Subway here does not sell yogurt, there are no Starbucks, and yes there is a MacDonalds, but they do not do yogurt here either. I live in a city of 18,000 people in the Canadian Arctic. Things are hard to come by at times here. Besides the high calories (400) the soft serve ice cream is close to yogurt in nutrition anyway (protein, carbs and fat). I was not really craving ice cream, I was craving something to eat, and what can you get when you are running between meetings in this place??? Not much, but I need to come more prepared I think is the big thing!!

Wow your subways and mcdonalds dont sell yogurt? Thats nuts! Well then prep is what you really need to focus on! Like everyone said, one time, no biggie, every once in a while no biggie. But if you get the thought in your head " well this is the best i can do between meetings" then this stuff will happen all the time. Snickers marathon Protein Bars are really good, keep a few at work, or in your purse :-)

can you buy the protien snickers bars online?

I cant find the low carb ones online :-(

There are plenty of other Protein bars that taste good too! You just have to do a trail and error to find them.

in that case, the best choice would have been milk without the added sugar. same Protein, and not filled with sugar, or even worse, hfcs. it has nothing to do with weight loss, in my opinion, but with not justifying bad choices.

Protein powder was a must always have during that stage for me. I only needed it once, but it saved me.

Certainly not the best choice, but not worth beating yourself up over either way. Take mental note to plan better next time and move on.

By the way, I aim for not more than 400 calories and at least 20g of Protein at each meal. So, by these standards, you weren't that far off. But, I wouldn't make a habit of it just because of the lack of other nutritional value. But, you know that already. As far as it hurting your weightloss, I don't think it will even register as a blip on the scale.

It is funny the differences in replies...some supportive...some like I beat my dog with a stick :-) No worries. the key with any diet, lap band, life style change is to have anything, but in moderation. I will make this my monthly treat, and move on. There is not much I can do about it now, but move forward and learn from my mistakes!!

Now beating your dog with a stick is something to get up in arms about!! LOL! Seriously though, some of the earlier comments were from people who haven't had their band very long. Don't stress too much. I like your attitude that you will do the band the way it is meant. Everything (you can tolerate) in moderation. That one of the reasons I chose the band in the first place. I wasn't going to have to force myself to diet all the time. That is pretty much torture for me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
