What's up gang?!?

I'm trying to prepare for the days after surgery. I want to be as prepared as possible and wanted....needed the help of post-op bandsters.

What will make life at home easy and smart? I'm talking from comforts to foods...well liquids rather!

Thx

You're going to get a lot of suggestions but let me say first that it's probably best to not overthink things. I went about life as usual right after surgery with the exception of the liquid diet for a week and pureed foods the following week.

I had nothing but Optifast Protein Shakes and yogurt the first week.

The second week I was dropping anything I wanted into the blender or food processor. Everything was fair game from pork chops to salad. Mashed potatoes; cottage cheese and scrambled eggs didn't need blending.

I had barely any pain at all following surgery. The gas was extremely uncomfortable for 3 days though.

Can't say I'm looking forward to blended pork chops....but I forgot to mention, I have fibromyalgia so my body feels pain easier and heals slower.....I have no doubt I'll be in a good deal of pain. Pain, I'm used to plus my doc is gonna repair a hernia as well so....

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna compose a shopping list and have the comforts and liquids ready so my hubby doesn't have to worry about anything but the kids.

I spent most of the next day sleeping off and on. I had some Protein Shakes, but I barely got 8 oz. down all day. I wasn't hungry at all and it took a really long time for me to drink anything. I was also in more pain the second day. The Dr. said it was because the pain killers I was given in the hospital and the anesthetic had worn off by then

I was much better the 2nd day afterwards.

I pray your pain eases up and the healing begins!

Number One: Heating Pad--it really feels good on your incisions.

Number Two and I heard it here---stay ahead of your pain. Don't be a hero and stay away from your pain meds, you got them for a reason.

For me, vegetable broth was a life saver. And literally life savers--my doctor said I could have them and when I first got out of surgery, they tasted really good.

good luck, I'm sure you'll do great.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
