Kezzabingo.007 0 Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) Hi Everyone! I am Kerry-Anne from NZ. I haven't had my surgery but I'm told by my dietitian that I'm "on the list". I was referred to the Gastric banding after I the birth of my son Noah. My obstetrician felt that it would be in the best interest for me to have this surgery (which I had never heard of) this was last August, so after 6 dietitian appointments I'm starting to have mixed feeling about the process. In NZ we can either pay for it $15000 or sit on the public health waiting list. According to things I have read only 3000 operations have ever been done in NZ... as opposed to the US where it is a widely known op. So I need help nothing that I have read has been positive. Please... :cursing: Edited May 30, 2010 by Kezzabingo.007 spelling error
elcee 3,341 Posted May 30, 2010 Hi Kerry. The op is very popular over the pond here in Oz. It has been available here for longer than in the US and our dr's probably have more experience. In the US a lot of Dr's still seem to favour bypass rather than banding. I have been banded a year this coming week and am extremely happy. I have lost all my excess weight and now feel(and hopefully look) fantastic. I no longer have high blood pressure and don't need to take the meds anymore. I can eat just about any food so long as I follow the rules of small bits, eating slowly etc. I would do this again in a heartbeat. My only regret is that I didn't do it years ago. If you want to ask me any questions please feel free to PM me. Lynn
