Is there anything you just CANT eat after lap band?

I'm just starting this process. I go on Tuesday to see what my insurance requires before they will cover it. They told me they cover it at 100% and that I definitely qualify so I'm hopeful! Anyway before I do this I want to make sure I fully understand everything.

Is there anything you absolutely cannot eat after Lap Band? After having the surgery are there any lifting restrictions?

I'm a stay at home mom to a 9 year old, 3 year old and 2 month old. Will I still be able to lift and hold my baby?

I could lift and pick up a lot of things even right after surgery. I did have to be careful and not do too much, though, keeping in mind that those first two weeks are for healing and not work :cursing:.

I can't eat broccoli. It's too fiberous for me and if it's in my food in any form but pureed, I will PB. Other than that? Not really. I can even eat bread and Pasta, I just have to take my time, listen to my body and know when I need to stop.

I don't know about lifting your baby. I would ask a doctor that question but I can still eat just about everything, just much more slowly and lots of chewing is necessary. I can't eat fresh green Beans. They're to stingy. I also have some problems with rice but can eat it if I chew and allow time between bites. Most of my "stuck" episodes where my fault. I either ate too fast or took to big a bite. Another "rule" of the band is no drinking any liquids with your meals or for 30 min. after your meal. That took time to get used to. It's no problem now though. I'm used to it. This is a great forum for support and answers. You came to the right place. Best wishes!!!

there's nothing I truly cant eat. I can get anything down. but there's a lot of foods I've developed a bit of an aversion to, I just dont fancy eating them. Sadly, that's things like fresh fruit, Breakfast in any shape or form etc. Healthy things, whilst strangely easier to eat foods like Cookies are as attractive as ever.

I find it very much a matter of willpower to keep choosing the harder to eat but healthier foods.

bread, Brocolli, Pasta, rice and tortilla's...............Beans sometimes but if I eat them slowly......I need them for protiens since I am vegetarian.

But yea sliders go down easy all the time so you have to have willpower and stay away from them. The band won't stop sliders...............

I wasn't lifting anything for a couple of weeks not even my cats. To sore...........I would have help around if you have babies.

I haven't found anything I can't eat. The two things I have been told I "should" never eat again are popcorn and carbonated drinks.< /p>

pancakes are the kiss of death for me. I really can't think of anything else that won't go down if I eat slow enough.

Actually - thought of something else that I will NOT eat cause it hurts no matter how masticated the bites, or how tiny they are when they go down - gummies. Yes...like the candy.< /p>

Judging based on others' answers - I'm going to say this is pretty individualized as to which foods will be definite no-no's to you.

During the six week recovery period, lap band patients will progress from a liquid diet to a soft diet then to solid foods. Once properly adjusted and on solid foods, lap band patients will have trouble eating certain foods and should avoid eating them, such as soft breads, tough or dry meats, fibrous foods like pineapple or asparagus, or skins of some fruits and vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes and grapes.

Oh yes, any kind of Gummy lolly, I certainly cant shove those down my face anymore. Luckily they're not big on my list of desires. My sweet tooth likes its sugar combined with fat and flour, sigh, like Cookies and cakes.

Pasta and rice are a big no no for me, no mater what I will PB and not feel right for the rest of the day. I also stay away from things with heavy sauces like ranch, honey mustard and mayo, for some reason I always PB the sauce back up. bread is something I don't eat, I can eat it if I go really slow and it is less than half a slice of bread, but I have noticed I get better results if I just stay away. popcorn was mentioned earlier, now that is something I can and do enjoy, I never had a problem with it. I agree though that gummies are a bad idea and soda I haven't had either in well over a year. Good luck on your journey and keep us posted on how things are go.

:confused::laugh: LOVE THIS!!!!! Our sweet tooths must be related LOL

So far there are not any foods that I can not eat as long as I chew well and eat slowly. I have only had 2 fills though, so this may very well change. I have had a couple of times where something I was eathing seemed to get stuck. It caused some discomfort, but I didn't PB or vomit or anything. I can also say that those episodes happened when I was really hungry and ate a little to fast or my bite was a little too large.

I did have lifting restrictions for the first four weeks. A 2-month-old would have been fine, though.

As for things you positively can't eat, well---it depends. My doctor has a pretty stringent eating plan designed to get us to our goal weights, and there are lots of exclusions---but they're not forever. And the results make it worth it for me.

From a band standpoint, though, there are foods that some people find difficult to tolerate. The list varies a lot--you'll just have to find out, on your own, what your body likes and does not like.

I have found that I really don't miss anything I can't eat. The band has been a great tool for me. It's placed food in its proper perspective; while I still enjoy good food, I have been freed of its hold on me.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
